Everything @Evie said and they’re super heavy!!
Agree with what Evie said, plus I’ve heard it gets heavy! I’d go for a lighter car seat that comes with a stroller you can easily pop it into! I have a Nuna car seat and love it, and I know those fit into their strollers easily!
I clicked by accident. I bought one, not used it yet but I’m excited to.
@Evie this is the same as every car seat compartment of a stroller. And yes they are heavy however, they aren’t meant to be carried, hence the stroller part.
@Ema yes but you still shouldn’t use the car seat on the stroller for long periods of time. You should use the bassinet for longer periods of time.
What people aren’t mentioning is most of those popular stroller have very bulky heavy base. The doona is a car seat stroller, it is not meant to be carried, just moved from car to the ground and off you go pushing.
@Evie absolutely. My point is, if you are out for say a long walk, no matter the stroller you will need a car seat and a bassinet/toddler seat either way. It depends on your lifestyle, I got the doona for convenience and I needed a car seat, I also have a toddler so plan on buying a lightweight second hand double stroller for longer walks.
@Ema yeah I get that, I was just suggesting this shouldn’t be your only stroller as it’s not recommended
@Evie yes this
but u will prob be fine tbh lol i had the nuna car seat that went into the stroller and i kept baby in for an hour as a newborn and was fine
I didn’t get the doona, but I got a stroller attachment for an infant car seat so you just take it off the base in the car and attach it to the stroller. It is really convenient as you don’t have to worry about waking your baby. I never got a bassinet stroller (didn’t even know they existed until I was pregnant with my second) and my almost 2 year old hit all his motor skill milestones early. You just need to make sure to do lots of tummy time so they can exercise and take the pressure off the back of their heads
Lots of regular strollers have attachments where you can connect an infant car seat. Our main stroller has that adapter and then our travel stroller just has straps that buckle across and hold an infant seat on top. I feel like the doona or similar ones just have a much more limited use and they’re not that cheap so it wouldn’t be worth it to me.
As someone who works in crash testing I wouldn’t buy a doona. Also they are illegal in Canada due to not meeting their safety requirements, so if you cross the border often it’s worth noting.
I had a c section and absolutely loved having my uppa baby. I was always able to lift each component and the nice thing about it is that the stroller part is a legitimate stroller. I’d recommend going with a stroller that can insert the car seat or regular seat or bassinet - it’s much more handy and the individual components are lighter than the doona. My sister has a doona and I think it gets pretty frustrating to use.

I have a Nuna and honestly I found it too heavy to lift out of the car and onto the pram frame. Plus when they are young you want to have them lying flat in a bassinet as much as possible. Doona looks cool but it’s not practical, heavy, low to the ground and too upright for young babies to spend extended periods of time in.
You need to check if they have been Swedish tested as a car seat. If not I wouldn’t risk putting baby in that seat. Also babies can only be in a car seat for 20mins I believe till they have to be taken out and let stretch. It isn’t safe for them to be in it for long stretches
@Sydney it’s US and EU safety tested. I live in the US and have always been told every hour or two they need to be taken out for long travels. other than that. i never left my baby in a car seat other than running to the grocery store or store distance. i hateee when ppl leave them in the seats so long. it blows my mind. but i will be doing some more research into the Swedish testing! i know EU has some high standards.
@Sami Swedish does faster testing which means if a car is going faster than you are and collides with you it accounts for that. I would get a travel set. A car seat. A bassinet and the buggy frame. Keep the car seat in the car and just use the bassinet on the frame. If you’re doing quick shops take baby into a baby carrier/sling they’ll love the extra snuggles anyways!! it is 1-2hours a time altogether Whilst being taken out frequently so every 20-30 min baby would have to stretch. Obviously if you’re on motorways that don’t have stops You’de have to wait till next stop
Just be mindful with the Doona that you aren’t supposed to keep babies in car seats for long periods of time so if you are using it just to take baby in and out of the house or only going to the shop quickly then it would be fine but they shouldn’t be used as your regular everyday stroller x
