Coconut oil, Vaseline or aquaphor. X
Yeah my boy has it and he’s 18 days old. Vaseline works really well on it! Xxx
@Gaby I tried expressing but my milk supply has slowed right down! Xx
Is it actually flaky skin or is it the leftover vernix? If you use anything, go for maybe some breast milk or Vaseline, avoid coconut oil or other food based oils as there are some early studies indicating that food particles entering the body through broken skin (rather than through the stomach during weaning) can lead to increased risk of developing allergies.

@Elizabeth do you have links to these studies, would love to look into this.
@Sisi it's early research but I'd also been told about it by an infant feeding consultant, which prompted me to do a few searches to see the initial studies. I have a master's in Sociology so I like the research. But there's a few, with an increased focus on peanuts I think. This one is just an article talking about a study at Northwestern https://news.northwestern.edu/stories/2018/april/food-allergy-is-linked-to-skin-exposure-and-genetics/ I think this is the study being referenced in the article https://www.jacionline.org/article/S0091-6749(18)30233-1/fulltext But here's two looking at environmental factors like dust, baby wipes (particularly ones with soap in them that disturb the skins lipid layer), and other forms of accidental food exposure through broken or irritated skin. https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/abs/10.1111/cea.12992 https://openaccess.sgul.ac.uk/id/eprint/112520/. This one was inconclusive but was looking more at eczema https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/cea.13847
@Elizabeth thank you! I wonder if coconut oil would be ok seeing as it’s not a well known allergen
Sounds nuts but are you breastfeeding? Because a little expressed breast milk will sort it right out xx
