@Maddie it’s Infatrini. That’s a great idea, thank you. Do you think it’s more a case of the formula just being a shock to the system? His neonatologist has said we have the option of using a fortifier but she wanted me to try the formula first, as she didn’t want me to have the added stress of pumping regularly as well. When I have surgery he will be having expressed milk as I have a stash in the freezer, then just the Infatrini once a day as prescribed x
@Kate infatrini is quite rich so it’s probably just abit harder for him to tolerate. So giving him a few smaller feeds of it alongside breast milk might just help his tummy get used to it!
What milk is he on? I’m a NICU nurse, in an ideal world you could try 25% formula and 75% breast milks, then after 24-48hrs (as tolerated) give 50:50 and then another 24-48hrs later give 75% formula 25% breast milk and then try 100% formula. Gives them time to get used to it and you can be guided by how they are tolerating it. As your surgery is soon. Maybe try and give small amounts of formula a few times in a day alongside breast milk and try and build up to him tolerating a whole feed of it!
