Going out during potty training

We are on day 2 of potty training. My little one has done both poopoos and weewees in the potty, and has gone to the potty without prompt when she’s felt she needed to go. We’ve only had a small amount of accidents so overall I’m super proud of how well she’s doing. But it’s got me thinking, what do I do when we go for a walk to the shops and she says she needs a wee when were 20min walk from home? And if I’m driving and she says she needs a wee/ poo (protecting the car seat)? Also, at what point/ how long does it take for them to be completely potty trained? My little one turns 3 next month. Worried/ mum guilt that I’ve left it late as she’s the only one in our mum friend group that isn’t/ wasn’t potty trained… have I left it really late?

You haven't left it late, you can't put a timer on when you're little one will be ready to toilet train or not. It annoys me when I see that were being accused of being lazy and our kids need to be out of nappies by the time they turn 2. It's like when they say about milestones they will do it in their own time! My son has been naked from the waist down at home since November, refuses to wear pants and wears nappy to bed and when we go out. He doesn't tell us when he needs a wee or poo he doesn't even tell us when he has pooped in his nappy we need to physically smell or look. He will pee and poop on his potty not problem and he will wear pants but as soon as he goes to his potty for his first pee or poop he refuses to put them back on. I keep getting told he needs to be out of nappies by now and I'm sick of being pressured by my own family. I try so hard to continue to put pants on him, ask him if he needs a wee. i just don't believe you can put a time frame on it tbh...

Firstly, we tried not to go many places in the first week. Think we only went round family houses. After that we bought a My Carry Potty (picture below) which we carried everywhere when there wasn't a toilet available. It fully seals so no wee leaks anywhere. We've never put anything on the car seat as we insisted he went just before we left the house but I've known people put puppy training pads on them to keep them dry in case of accidents.

If we are out and she needs the loo and there's no toilet, she goes in the bushes, if she needs when in the car, pull over and again goes in the bushes, or I bought a my carry potty that went everywhere with us for the first month or so. She even used it in the middle of the supermarket

We are on day 3 and we are going to pop to the shops tomorrow, he's had a growth spurt on holiday last week and now his shoes are rubbing so need to take him for new. I plan to have him sit on the toilet before we go, use them when we get there and then keep checking in with him. I also bought a Whizzer for when we are out and about rather than a big potty to carry around but he is regular with doing a poo first thing on a morning and again after nap so I know 99% chance it will be a wee he needs.

I bought a portable toilet seat for out and about so she still uses the toilet but the seat fits for her instead and then wipe it down whilst out and clean it properly at home etc. If we are somewhere where there are no toilets like a park then the bushes it is. They learn to start to tell you when they need a wee but it can take a bit of time. Take spare clothes etc x

I’ve had to let my little one have a wee outside before now because of it, i had to pull over on a quiet side street and hide her behind the car 😅 To start with we used puppy pads on the car seat just put the holes through where the straps go because sometimes she will fall asleep in the car. Mine was fully trained within 2 weeks but she’s still not trained at night and she’s been trained since christmas so i’m not putting pressure on that too much

Carry potty and pull over in your car if safe to do so. I also have a cover for his car seat. We have been doing it since December and he still has accidents here and there. He’s still learning.
