Potty help

My son keeps pooing himself whenever I go put his little sister down for a nap. He’s been doing this for the last month now and it’s absolutely driving me crazy. He knows how to use the toilet, he easily takes himself and will sit to wee or poo normally but lately whenever I go put his sister down for a nap he decides to poo himself. I’ve tried speaking to him about it which is a bit hard because he’s only just about to turn 3 and also tried sitting him on the toilet for a while and making a game of it before I start putting his sister down but he’ll only wee then whinge to get off. Anyone going something similar too or have any tips?

What happens after you discover he has poo'd himself? What is your response, what do you do? To be fair if I am not around my son wouldn't take himself even though he knows how to, there is still a bit of anxiety around poo at this age. I would try making it very clear what you expect from him while putting his sister down and make it reward based. E.g. if you can keep your pants clean and dry until I get back there will be a treat for you (stickers, bubble games, playing something together, a food treat etc ask he what he would like). Then he is getting full on attention for a positive thing. If he does do a poo in his pants then keep your response to a minimum, hardly any language, just get him changed and move on. Happy to help further if that hasn't worked after a few days.
