@Emily thank you, my liver levels on Saturday were a tiny bit high but not enough for them to be concerned. But 2 month ago when I had an attack they wasn’t high at all. So who knows. I kind of just want to know what’s going on and if I have them or not. Glad to hear you’ve managed to keep it under control!
Even with bloods an ultrasound would be needed to confirm as could be liver, pancreas, or gallbladder and have to get to the bottom of it I had my first attack about 3 weeks pp in Jan followed by several others. I opted to go private as I didn't want to risk having an attack whilst alone with my LO and him needing me- had my diagnosis and gallbladder out in March. Generally speaking, although always talk with your Dr about it, some people can manage with diet alone to keep attacks down however- from online and also conversations with my gp then the private Dr's, the general opinion is its better to have it out whilst you're able to heal on your own terms and it be non emergency surgery than for a stone to get stuck and cause infection leading to liver issues or sepsis and need emergency surgery. I was aligned with this and had my concerns above too so got mine out
@Kay thank you very much for this, I’ve had 4 attacks in the space of a year. First 2 being so mild that they stopped after 20 minutes and I went back to sleep. The 2 this year were crazy. My recent on one Saturday I was alone with the baby which was stressful, that’s why I called 999 to make sure someone came quick. Thankfully my mum, husband and the ambulance all arrived at the same time x
It really depends on the size and quantity of the stones whether you can realistically just manage it or whether surgery is the best option which you won't know until you've been for an ultrasound. They are usually pretty quick to make the decision to remove the gallbladder if it's problematic as it's not a vital organ and your body can function perfectly without it. Removal is keyhole and usually only a day trip to hospital 😊 but not sure where you are in the world, I'm in England and currently relying on the crazy long waiting list to have mine taken out 😅 if I wasn't able to keep it mostly at bay with diet I would definitely have gone private! The pain is unreal when an attack happens 😵💫 would 100% rather be in labour again 🤣
@Emily soo painful isn’t it!! I’m in England, Manchester. The nhs really is an issue at the moment. If it gets worse I may consider private when I’m back working and not on terrible maternity pay😅
I’ve been diagnosed and it’s no fun. They showed me the ultrasound and I have so many tiny gallstones that it’s best to remove the whole gallbladder. Nothing will help other than surgery
@Lis | mommy of 3 I had multiple tiny gallstones too and had 2 attacks before deciding I wanted it out. I was 4 months pp
Awe I’m sorry I had many because I was eating the same things that attacked me until I realized it was not food born illness lol. I was in denial at first and I cut out all of it. So I’ve managed and the pain is gone but I still have them. I still temporarily have my gallbladder but I’m tired of starving myself. I miss eating. I want to eat again so hopefully next year comes so I can decide to get it removed. I want to freely eat♥️ I miss all the food I can’t have
@Lis | mommy of 3 when I had my attacks I didn’t know it was my gallbladder doctors told me it was heartburn 🤦🏻♀️ until my second attack I had to be rushed to hospital and then I had to stay a few days and was diagnosed then. And within two months I had mine removed. I remember every time being scared of eating in case I had an attack while alone with my baby. I kept to a low fat diet
@Ana this is what they’ve done to me twice said it’s heartburn or bad reflux I was like heartburn is not under your right rib🙄think they’ve finally listened to me x
I was dismissed so quickly and because I was bleeding they just said oh it’s leftovers from birth and heartburn so just take gaviscon🤦🏻♀️ when the second attack started I took gaviscon and it didn’t do anything. I remember telling my partner that this was definitely not heartburn and that it was worse than birth
@Ana exactly the same with me. Plus my liver levels being high I said that’s clearly more than heartburn x
My liver function was way off on my initial blood tests but at my retest 2 weeks later they were virtually normal. I'm trying to manage mine whilst I'm on the very long waiting list to have my gallbladder out (referal done after the ultrasound confirmed gallstones in February). I eat a very low fat, high fibre diet and I've only had 1 big l(5ish hours) and 2 small (1-2 hours)attacks since being diagnosed with suspected gallstones in November!
