Hair washing

For anyone whose child HATES getting their hair washed, I wanted to share something that helped us through. For context, my daughter will be 2 next month. This might seem very silly to some people, but we pretended the water was rain because she likes to look at rain…I started by sprinkling water in our hands, making a game of it. I made up a rain song. Eventually I sprinkled VERY tiny drops of water on the ends of her hair (careful not to wet her scalp yet) and we watched the rain drops drip down and hit the water. She laughed and thought it was funny. We did this the exact same way for a few nights in a row. Then as we played the rain game over the next couple of nights, I gradually got more of her hair wet, and about a week later I managed to get her whole head wet without her having a 40 minute meltdown. She froze up a bit and looked at me like she wanted to scream, but when I started singing our little rain song she calmed down and smiled. I don’t know if this will work for anyone else, but it’s something simple that I tried to make fun and gradual and it helped. Hopefully it sticks. Just wanted to share. ❤️

Awesome job momma 🥰 I love the creativity that goes behind helping our little ones

@Isabel thank you!! 🥹❤️ We are all just figuring it out as we go. It felt like such a win tonight. And I even managed to get her to sleep with only 4 minutes of crying when I left the room. I am having a glass of wine to celebrate a good night.

Exactly! I'm so proud of you and hope you enjoy that glass of wine hun 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 cheers! 🥂

@Isabel thank you!!!

My son is obsessed with the alphabet so I started to wash his hair while singing the ABCs and once the song is done, it means I am done washing that way he knows when the end is nearing. Before I thought of this, it was soooo bad, he would scream , run out of the bathtub which was so scary because he would almost fall each time. I tried everything and nothing would work but luckily the ABC song worked.

I have to do this for my son, also he's nearly 9 , I use to have a hat thing you can use in shower it's like a sun hat kinda thing , but I get him to mention Pokémon how many we can think of and then other tv characters, while I wash his hair , he's also getting diagnosed for adhd and autism

@Mayte that is wonderful to hear!! I love that you’ve found what works for you and your son. ❤️

@Lottie this is awesome, too! Feels good to get over a hurdle. I’m definitely going to start trying to find ways to incorporate other things she loves in other daily tasks that we need to get done.
