Has anyone been diagnosed with Bell's Palsy?

I'm 31 weeks and yesterday I noticed that my lips felt weird when I tried putting on chapstick. After a panicked rush to the ER, I was diagnosed with Bell's Palsy. They say the recovery time is different for everyone. It could be weeks or months. Just wondering if anyone else has been through the same thing and what your experience was.

Hi Cara, I am so sorry you’re experiencing this and also sorry I’m the first to respond 😅. I had Bell’s Palsy a month before having my son 14 months ago. Sadly (but very very uncommonly) I have not regained full control of the right side of my face. Most people heal fully by or before 6 months but because my nerves regrew incorrectly, I have movements that I can’t do or can’t control. My suggestion to you is go see a neurologist ASAP. Talk to them about physical therapy, acupuncture, tens units, exercises, massages, etc. to see what they think will help you ensure you heal quickly and correctly. Don’t wait it out like most ERs suggest. The best way to get through it is to laugh it out (I know it’s hard)! Did they give you a steroid and antivirals? You have a better shot at fully healing the earlier you have the meds.

I had Bell’s palsy when I was 9 weeks pregnant, they blue lighted me to hospital thinking it was a stroke (UK) however I was given steroid medication for a period of time, I had to take a lot (recommended) by doctor, then the dosage got less over time. Within 2 months I regained full control back from my face!

@Kylie Jeez, that's so scary to hear. I just made an appointment with a neurologist before I even replied to your comment. And yes, they have me on anti virals and steroids. I'm hoping we caught it early enough. I ate cereal without any issues about an hour before that chapstick incident and then drove straight to the ER where they rushed me back for possible stroke. Thanks so much for answering and for your advice. Very appreciated and I hope you fully recover

@Courtney Phew, that's good news. How long were you in the steroids?

@Cara if I remember correctly, maybe a couple weeks? I had to do facial exercises aswell. When the Bell’s palsy was bad I had no movement in the left side of my face, I had to tape my eye shut to sleep etc and I had no hope! But my movement came back after a while!

I think I'm going to have to do the same with my eye. It's not blinking with my other eye. Eating is also embarrassingly difficult.
