Birth control after c-section

So I need advice please because my midwife is being useless with this😵‍💫 So I’ll be going in for a planned c-section in 11 days. This was an unplanned pregnancy. I currently have a wee girl who has just turned a year old last week. Since I was 11 years old, I have struggled with my periods (heavy & extremely painful) so at 11 years old I was put on the pill to try and control them however the pill didn’t work for me and actually caused migraines so I was changed to a different one which had the same outcome so after that I was put onto the mini pill which actually made the migraines worse. After trying all the pill options, I was put onto the depo injection however this also caused migraines alongside weight gain issues so I was taken off that too. This all happened over the space of around 6/7 years. The GP had said that the “rod” was not an option for me and could only suggest the coil however to be completely honest, I have always been too scared to go for it. By the time I was 17/18, I was not on any birth control as nothing seemed to agree with me. I was 22 years old when I fell pregnant the first time and unfortunately this ended in a miscarriage. I did fall pregnant relatively quickly and had my daughter at 23. The concerning thing for me is that it took me 4/5 years to fall pregnant the first time as I was not on any birth control and (probably stupidly) we were not using any other form of contraception. I have been with my soon to be husband since I was 15. The main point of this is, I really don’t know what contraception to go for now. I have struggled with this pregnancy to the point I know I do not want to do this again for at least a few years so I need to go on some sort of birth control. It was mentioned that the coil can be fitted during the c-section but there are two to choose from and I’m supposed to pick?? Apparently there’s one that stops your period all together but can cause migraines and another that can cause heavy periods but “should not” cause migraines? Can someone please tell me what to do because I’m at my wits end!🥲

For me it's the mirena everytime. I think you get it inserted post partum but maybe there is a C-section option. I had three separate ones, no periods for over a decade and no side effects. And no accidental pregnancies either (had it removed to conceive)

I had the mirena coil before pregnancy and will be getting it again. No migraines, no periods. I also have endometriosis and the coil was a lifesaver for me.

I’ve had the coil twice I can’t remember which one though but both times they never caused heavy bleeding or migraines, sounds like you’ve had a nightmare with contraception so having it inserted during a c section is a great idea.

I’ve had the copper coil. Gonna have again. It’s non hormonal so less headaches etc. My bleeding wasn’t noticeably heavier but i know everyone is different.

I’m on the depo yiy get it every 3 months and it’s stopped my periods and feel better In my self yiu dint need to be on contraception but with a c section you should wait at least 12 months before having another child, but at the end of the day it’s your choice cx

I’ve had both IUD (coils) - copper (non hormonal) was great, had it for 5 years, but it did make my periods heavier. No other side effects. - mirena (hormonal). Hated it. Lots of side effects from the hormones, headaches, irritability, constant spotting, my periods did not stop. I would suggest that if hormones cause you migraines that you go for a non hormonal option (such as the copper coil). Yes, it may make your periods heavier, but you can always have it removed if it doesn’t work for you. It’s a weigh up between possible heavier periods / hormonal side effects 😖
