Bub is today six months and happy as ever and healthy, making noises, screaming, crying as they should with good little lungs 😊 We haven’t had any issues relating to breathing since. She had a cough and her lungs seemed heavy around three months so went to the ED but it was just from a cold with mucus making it thicker for her to breathe. Apparently it is very common for cesarean births to have this issue and generally doctors etc are very knowledgeable and on top of things. I have the baby in the room with me in her cot and would wake up from her needing feed/making different sounds. Try to enjoy the newborn stage as much as you can, the doctors would not have let you leave the hospital (if you have) unless they knew it was safe to do so ❤️ If ever in doubt go to the ED or the doctor, don’t hesitate. But from my own experience bub is doing really well and my gut feeling would know if I needed to take her anywhere and hopefully it’ll be the same for you 😊
With my first born he swallowed meconium in the delivery of giving birth with an emergency c section. He was in the NICU ward for 2 days and and had some heavy breathing for about a week and a half afterwards, but he recovered completely and has been perfectly healthy since. So try not to worry too much, these things can sound very scary but babies are incredibly resilient.
I had a similar experience with my son, except he was assisted vaginal not emergency c, but he was on cpap for 18 mins… I also felt his breathing was very fast and heavy in that first week. My partner is a doctor and he was trying to reassure me that “normal” is a very big scale, but even he agreed our boy was on the higher end. We ended up just booking into the GP for peace of mind (and my sanity) and it was all okay. There are other things they look for like flaring nostrils etc. Just book in with the GP and voice your concerns - it’s not worth the anxiety! And I should add, he’s perfectly fine and no issues so I’m sure your little one is fine too, but for me I wanted that second opinion! Xx
Similar situation with my little one who was born almost 3 years ago today🥹 he was 6 days overdue and had a severe meconium aspiration and ended up in the nicu at Westmead for a month. My little one has no issues now and the heavy breathing went away after a while tbh🙏
With my second child we had the same experience. She was born in Albany but got flown to PCH and stayed there for five days in NICU. She wasn’t doing great straight after birth but entered nighttime and she improved however the morning after she was getting worse again. She had cpap as well but got taken off after a few days. I was very paranoid as well with the breathing however babies breathe very unevenly for the first few weeks in life even when no complications during birth with their oxygen. But me and my partner did ask the doctors what to look for and if is going home after this would increase any more risks for SIDS etc compared to other and we were told no. PCH wouldn’t have let us gone home unless she was doing fully well on her own and being healthy as a baby that would’ve been through a birth with no complications (I believe). Doctors told us to make sure she has wet nappies (so she feeds well) and also if she would seem sloppy do keep an eye out.
