Baby is constipated

Hi my little girl is 1 week old now. She has been constipated for about 4 days. Her midwife yesterday advised it can be up to 5 days but she’s in a lot of discomfort and is only occasionally passing small pebble like poops. i’ve tried it all ( tummy rubs, warm baths, bicycle legs) nothing is working. Can she be prescribed anything? and who’s best to speak to as midwife seems very nonchalant thanks in advance 💕💕

We had 5hus and went to hospital had a suppository and pro lem solved within 5 mins

@Nicki did you go through the midwife or nhs 24 to get an appointment, thanks for replying also!

Midwife referred us to 111

Is she breast fed or formula? My baby used to poop once a week and I was told this can be normal for breast fed babies, he was gassy and uncomfortable when he was small but seemed to grow out of it

she’s formula fed

Oh ok, check with your health visitor but I think the advice is to offer cool boiled water as an additional drink because the pebble like poo does sound like she might be a little dehydrated. Also look out for sunken fontanelles (the soft spot of the skull)- this would be a sign of severe dehydration

Have you done the legs thing? Worked wonders for my little girl. Rub tummy in circular motion then almost bicycle the legs. Made her fart then poop. Search it on YouTube.

My little girl is now 3 weeks we’ve had the same problem the gp prescribed us lactulose, bicycle legs also helped us x

@Kayleigh Kendamil do drops. I was reading the reviews earlier and people comment on them helping constipation. Have a look maybe? You should still be able to access your hospital ward so maybe call triage and chat to them. They might see baby and save you going a&e. (That’s how it works in my area anyway) x
