Thanks for this! What is it you do for work? And how do you justify the cost of a childminder?x
I work in a pharmacy and was able to have hours adjusted. I still ended up with an extra £400 a month after paying my half of the bills and child minders. So that's the food shop money lol. But I think I'd go insane if I wasn't in work tbh. My childminder is £48 a day though so unsure if that's a good price 😂 xx
Childminders around us are £12 a hour so by time we’ve paid that I might aswell not even go to work! It’s just bizarre x
Oh wow which part are you? X
My husband and I are both welder and fabricators, we pay £136 a week for our 2 year old to go to play school full time, we’re in Rhyl. We couldn’t justify it before she turned 2 as it was almost double the price
@Sophie we’re in mid wales x
His nursery fees for 2 days a week are over £500 a month! We just cannot do it, it seems the only way is if you’ve got plenty of people close and you trust that you can rely on for childcare which we sadly don’t.
Where in mid wales are you? I’m in mid wales and our childminder we have arranged for when I go back to work is £6.40 an hour. Childminders are a bit cheaper than nursery I’ve found x
Between Newtown and Welshpool,Powys. I see your only in aber! I presume the childminder has multiple children at once not just your children? That is so reasonable tho! All the ones I’ve contacted have been £12 per hour which is twice as much as nursery for the length of my working day.
That is really expensive! Yeah she has multiple at once, not very many though I don’t think. She charges £51.20 a day for a 8-4pm day. It is so frustrating trying to sort childcare out and being able to afford it, it’s such a massive expense, I don’t blame people for not going back to work and choosing to stay home with their children!
I found a childminder I trust. He goes Tuesday & Wednesday. And my mum and mother in law take it in turns for every other Monday. This way I can work 3 days a week. It covers us just enough. I'd work lore if I could but I also don't want to miss out on any milestones and actually see him lol. So this is what works for us. My partner is in the navy so works away during the week. But we are also a 1 and done family. We wouldn't be able to afford another one so decided to stop after having him.. Unsure if that helps but that's our situation ☺️ xx
