Percentiles

Hiiii, can anybody explain percentiles to me and what they mean? I was measuring small by my midwife on Wednesday below the 1st percentile to be exact, so I was worried. However, I went for a scan yesterday and they seemed happy with my baby’s measurements and said she was at the 45th percentile. FYI my gestation is 25 weeks + 4. Nothing else was said, is the 45th percentile ok?

Yes perfectly fine!!!!! My midwives explained it to me as ‘there’s 1 in 100 babies and you’re 45th’ meaning you’re in perfect range ❤️

It means that out of 100 babies of the exact same age your little one was heavier or taller than 45 of them. If kids are high centiles they often outgrow clothes quicker or are taller for their age, it’s just like a comparison for weight and height. Would take midwife measurements with a pinch of salt cause they’re just measuring externally, many mums don’t have a bump at this stage, I didn’t with my first for example

Jade we are carrying big bump

@Lily yeah I’ve been told I’m carrying big ! Literally starts from just under my boobs!

People think I am almost due. Some even think I’m carrying twins 🤣
