Patients to avoid

Hi everyone, I am in very early pregnancy, and work in PICU. Currently we have patients who are CMV+ who I know I should avoid. I have already had to tell one person who asked me to go in that cubicle, which feels incredibly stressful so early on. Does anyone have any advice on how to go about avoiding these certain patients without telling multiple people? Thanks x

I think it’s safer to tell your managers due to the nature of your job for the safety of you and your baby. You can ask them not to tell anyone on the ward and they should respect that. It will be hard to avoid the risks on an ICU ward without some support xx

I would tell managers and at least they are aware when allocating patients and can give you the low risk ones. I was super reluctant to tell people at first but it's so much easier when they do know and you can stand you're ground easier.

You need to tell your managers - they will do a risk assessment with you.

Ask for an early risk assessment from your manager and identify from that then people whom can be told but your manager should have ways of managing those situations
