Headbutting baby!

Hi December Mamas - my 7 week old had been latching and generally breastfeeding very well till the last two weeks. Now all she does is latch for about 2 mins then gets really angry or frustrated, bobs her head up and down as if to head butt my boob - then latches and unlatched again and again crying all the way through, anyone experienced this and know what reason it might be because and what to do about it?

Do you have a forceful let down? After the initial popping off and crying, will he settle to eat? Does baby have to poop? Does baby have to burp?

mine does that when she is jazzy or when i don’t have enough milk in the breast. So i changé side :)

Snap, usually when he’s really tired- he has tongue tie so I think the effort just gets a bit much. I try swapping sides too…

Thanks all - she hasn’t pooped for longer than usual so that may well be it. Although she never used to do this, :( hopefully she isn’t rejecting my nipples 😢

Mine has been like this for most of his five weeks! It's so difficult! Sometimes he ended up burping or being sick on the boob so this was the problem - but then if I ever try to stop and burp him, he continues screaming as he wants to feed 🤦🏼‍♀️ I also thought it was the fast letdown on my left as it was more common there so tried expressing some first, but was never really sure how much was enough. If you find anything that works, please let me know! 🤦🏼‍♀️😂 it's a nightmare! Really puts me off feeding in public now.

Hi Ellie so sorry you’re going through the same thing and thanks everyone else for sharing your experiences. Ellie does your baby bottle feed too (as in are you combo feeding and breastfeeding at the same time or exclusively breastfeeding)?

It sounds like baby is cluster feeding, it’s a way of them stimulating more milk production, just have to ride it out mama ❤️❤️

@Avnee yeah we do combi feeding so I suppose that plays a part as well!

Thanks Ellie - yeah ditto re combi feeding! Here’s to this phase of head bopping babies passing! Xx

@Avnee fingers crossed! We've just had a good scream with the nipple in his mouth 😂🤦🏼‍♀️ xx

Haha @Ellie we’ve just had our first good feed after a few bad couple of days. I let her wriggle around on her back first and she let out a few farts and then put her to my nipple, with knees bent and held and she fed fuss free for ten mins. Hope it’s just gas after all!
