Washing babies clothes before birth

Hi all, just wondering what people’s thoughts are on washing babies clothes before they arrive? And do you all use non-bio? Can you use any fabric softener? I have three sizes of outsiders in the hospital bag (as who knows what size she will be) and I have so many outfits for her that people have bought, but does everyone wash these clothes before putting on baby and if so, can I wash them now (30+3 weeks) or do I have to wait till closer to the time? Thank you in advance :) x

You can wash them at any time, the reason it’s recommend to wash them is so they are clean and free of any chemicals that warehouses and shops may use to keep the clothing clean or in the processes they use from packaging etc. if you want them to smell really fresh then wait till nearer the time but if you you aren’t too fussed then you could start now. Also I would just take first size and 0-3 in your hospital bag baby isn’t likely to be bigger than that xx

I personally washed all the clothes, blankets, etc that I got just because you never know the chemicals in the factories they come from, the amounts of people that touch them at the stores, or if someone coughed/sneezed on them or touched them after, etc. I waited until 33 weeks to wash mine as I didn't want them to lose freshness too early. I'd wash your smaller sizes now if you wanted, but 3mo+ I'd wait on to keep the freshness.

I hand washed baby’s clothes with non bio from Asda. Let them dry and put them away, you can wash at any time 😁

Hey, I'm washing everything (clothes, blankets, etc) as baby will have belly button still recovering, so don't want any bacteria to leech on.. I started a while ego, 33weeks now. Once washed (/ironed), I just store it in a baby wardrobe ;) I'm using baby washing powder and vinegar as a softener / smell remover (to avoid allergies).

Hiya, 31+2…. And I’m going to start washing in the next week or so to start getting my bag ready. Wash pretty much everything if you want, or don’t if you don’t want! Vests and grows I would say Defs but blankets and comforters might not need it. Totally up to you tho. If it makes you feel good to get it all washed…. DO IT!! Can’t beat that clean washing feeling. And yeah usually a non bio plus fairy or comfort softener (usually the ones with the babies on the front!!) x

I’m washing everything with fairy non bio, no fabric softener as it ruins fabrics it doesn’t do any good apart from put a waxy coating on. I’m then ironing everything and hanging in his wardrobe xx

I washed all my bits 5 weeks ago and they still smell lovely and fresh! And it’s a massive weight off me knowing they’re done

I have used non-bio pods, and some fairy smelly pearl things that are supposed to be safe for bubba! Hopefully she’s not allergic or sensitive to it xx

And in terms of sizes, I have clothes ranging up to 6-9 months, but I’ve not bothered washing them yet because they’ll be stale and old by the time she wears them, so I’m going to keep them packed away and wash them a few months down the line x

I would recommend washing them I have with both of mine and just used fairy and a small amount, just because baby skin is so sensitive ❤️

I’m washing everything from 0-3 months :)

Have washed and iron them all , I’m 35weeks

I'm washing everything in non bio, including comforters and soft toys... we've been given a fair amount 2nd hand xxx 🩷

I’ve washed everything newborn and 0-3, just with my normal Bold Gold Orchid. Other sizes I’ve vacuum packed and will wash when she gets to that size. The NHS changed their guidelines and it now says there is no evidence that washing laundry with biological detergent with enzymes will irritate the skin any more than non-bio.

I’m going to wash mine either next week or this week! Apparently it’s recommended to wash the 4-6 weeks before the due date due to dust etc so that’s what I’m doing x
