Antihistamine Protocol FET?

Has anyone done an antihistamine protocol for a frozen embryo transfer? If so, what did that entail and did that result in a successful pregnancy? I have 2 genetically normal embryos that are able to be transferred and really nervous because I’ve had two first-trimester miscarriages (one at 6 weeks and one was more of a chemical at 4 weeks). I’m terrified to transfer and just have a gut feeling that some type of antihistamine protocol may help. Any suggestions are welcome!

Fellow loss mama here (7 Angel babies) and I did it with a full immune protocol. The one I did with clairitin in the morning. Pepcid at lunch and then 2 x benadryl at night

@Cheyanne thank you! What do you mean you did it with a “full immune protocol”? Sorry I know nothing 😂

Yep! After my first transfer was a MMC they put me on antihistamine (10 mg prednisone, 10 mg Claritin and 20mg pepcid (2x a day) I have a 2 yr old and am 26 weeks with #2 from that protocol

After my first FET failed (and I only had 3 to start) I asked for an antihistamine protocol for my 2nd (and had success!) For me they put me on 20mg of pepcid 2x a day and one Claritin (I took it at night because it makes such a zombie). I am 10 weeks now and still on it.

Haha that’s ok! So basically I have recurrent loss issues (7 miscarriages total) and they figured out that the losses were my body essentially attacking and killing the baby (my immune system) so I needed medication to basically prevent this from happening.

Thank you all! Need to ask my doctor about this

Hi, I've had recurrent implantation failure (4 failed transfers). Do you guys think this antihistamine protocol would be worth a try for me? None of my doctors have ever mentioned this. This is the first time I'm hearing about it. Is it only for miscarriages & chemical pregnancies cux I've never had a BFP. Thank you!

Yes! If your embryos are genetically tested please look into immune testing and treatment

@Maya First, I am so sorry for the heartache you've gone through. No one talked to me about it either because I did not show clinical signs of needing it. (ie I did not show signs of being allergic to my husband's sperm)... but I saw a post about it a year ago, and my gut said to ask for it. I have recently developed some severe allergies (like day 7 of antibiotics I sprung a severe allergy to penicillin), so I thought maybe my system just does not play well with unknown or foreign objects.... I asked, and the doctor said she did not think I needed it, but if I wanted to do the antihistamine protocol, it could not hurt. And as I said, this one was successful. I was in your same boat. I had never had a positive result before. In my opinion, if there is no downside, I would absolutely ask to add it. I wish you so much luck.

Hey all, Was there a reason your doctors recommended the antihistamine protocol? We’re there tests you did that showed this would help?

@Danielle oh wow.. that's amazing. Congratulations on your BFP. I will bring this up with my doctor. Btw what do u mean by allergic to husband's sperm??? What are the signs and symptoms?? I am feeling soo soo defeated after my 4th failed transfer since we had added so many different medications and also done a hysterscopy, endometrial scratch and even used embryo glue 😢. I was soo hopeful abt it. @Cheyanne no my embryos were not genetically tested so my doctor has said to do a pgt for next round. Just thinking about having to go through it all over again from scratch is already stressing me out. 😓

@Maya that’s so valid, I totally get it. I did ivf twice because the first round I miscarried all my embryos. It was so daunting but I switched clinics (best decision I ever made) and had a much better second round. I did the pgt testing, immune testing and treatment (because of recurrent loss) and finally had my rainbow son.

@Cheyanne I already had my two embryos pgt tested from my last cycle but going into a new egg retrieval and curious about the immune testing. If I get any embryos, they are being pgt tested. Do I just ask my doctor to also do immune testing on the embryos or how does that work? Sorry I’ve never heard of this!

What clinic are you at, it’s very clinic specific. Majority of clinics and fertility specialists don’t know anything about it.

@Lucie the idea behind it is it helps in the event your body is having an autoimmune response and attacking the embryo before it has a chance to properly attach. I didn't require any testing for it but it's our clinics policy after a loss to do it with patients with endometriosis which I have.

@Cheyanne I’m at RMA in LA

@Maya I am sorry I cannot answer what the clinical signs are for if you're allergic to your partner/donor.... as I did not have signs of being allergic myself... but I do think the antihistamine protocol helped calm my system and gave the embryo a chance or a more friendly environment. (I did have the embryos tested so I knew there wasn't a chromosome issue or embryo reason for the first to fail and so wanted to make sure on the 2nd that my system was not working against this) you have been through so much! I can only imagine after the scratch and glue and everything how disheartened you feel. I hope you find the right combination for you. As my husband jokes ($70k in IVF later), wouldn't it be funny if all we needed was $100 worth of antacid and Claritin? (No ...not really, but certainly some irony)

You will have to find a Reproductive Immunologist in your area who works specifically with immune issues in pregnancy. There’s a group on Facebook called Reproductive Immunology Support and it has a ton of helpful posts and links and a full list of RIs in the world

@Cheyanne hi Cheyanne! Wondering what your doses for your antihistamine protocol was (Claritin, Pepcid and Benedryl). Doing Claritin 10 mg and Pepcid 20mg (10mg in morning and 10mg at night) but might be adding Benedryl into the mix

@Danielle hi Danielle! Did you take Claritin and Pepcid in morning? The Claritin is making me drowsy (even the non-drowsy one stinking of switching it to at night

Oh it takes me down. I took 2 pepcid in the am and 2 pepcid and 1 Claritin in the pm.

Thanks for all this info. I just found out my first fet with DE failed. Going to see if I can do this protocol.

Hello I’m so sorry I dint come on here much but it was 1 Claritin in the morning, 1 Pepcid at lunch and 2 Benadryl at night

The antihistamine protocol was successful for me after previous failed implantation. Claritin+Pepcid in morning and Pepcid+Benadryl at night. Good luck!

@Cheyanne congrats! How many days before transfer did you take it?
