Does sunlife canada covers breast pump if prescribed by doctor? I know it would vary by plan and provider but I am not sure how can I found out if I am covered? Anyone has any suggestions on this

Hey Polly, I just called SunLife to confirm. Their customer care number is available on the website. You will need your group plan no. And personal id number. But they confirmed that they cover up to 300$ with a doctor's prescription.

Thanks @Aakriti ❤️❤️

Any chance if this also applies for public servant under their plan? Thanks for sharing I didn’t even know that was a thing!

@Ali so mine just said "Prescription for Breat Pump for use of upto 6 months or 28 weeks, post-partum". And then it had doctors signature on the letter head. Disclaimer: I haven't used it yet, but the doc said that it should work as it's the same prescription they issue to all their patients.

@Rabia unfortunately I am not sure. Do you have an insurance plan from the government? If yes, it definitely will be covered. Every plan holder has a different amount set aside. Usually ranging from 200-350 dollars.

For anyone that falls under the the public service healthcare plan with sun life. (55555) Just spoke to them about breast pump coverage and this is the information provided. Breast pumps covered if prescribed by doctor … 80% of $500 In addition to the prescription, coverage is only if one of the following conditions are met. 1) baby is born before 37 weeks 2) mother or baby have a medical condition.

My letter from OB says that I am under their care for pregnancy. My due date is this. We recommend an electric breast pump to facilitate nursing. I have manulife insurance from my employer and breast pump is not covered. However, I can use my health care spending account to buy a pump if I provide a doctor’s note.

My Husbands benefits are also Manulife and I called and they cover $0 so make sure you call because each plan is different, even if it's with a company you've heard that covers it

I’m also with Sunlife and was told that they cover breast pumps for up to $300. I just bought a medela pump and Sunlife reimbursed me for it but tax was not included, which is fine. I submitted a prescription from my OB and store receipt.
