Also my friend just had her baby last week in Baldwin or Downey Kaiser forgot which one but she also got the same treatment I did in Panorama City.
I didn't give birth at the Sunset location ( I live closer to the West LA location) so Ican't speak for them in particular, but I made sure to have both my deliveries at Kaiser. Thank God I did too because I had preeclampsia and was in the hospital for 6 days because they would not let me go home until my BP was under control. At the time I hated it and felt like I was trapped 😪🤣 but looking back knowing how many women, especially black women, die in the hospital by being ignored for the exact same thing I was going through I'm so grateful that they pressured me to stay and let them take care of me. They also took care of my LO as she was born with a high level of bilirubin.
I had the best experience delivering at Kaiser on sunset!
I have given birth twice there in 2014 and 2022 first time was induced was in the hospital for like 5 days second time was natural as in one day out the other. I felt the second time they kept trying to talk me into getting an epidural even tho I refused multiple times. I had to go into the l&d twice the same night (I was in labor but they sent me home bc I wasn’t dialeted enough, however labor pain was all day and just got worse at night) and almost fell my husband wasn’t allowed in the L&D check in (when I almost fell) the nurse didn’t have the bed locked. The nurses in the actual unit and post where really nice and actually helpful. One offered to assist me in showering but I just couldn’t with all the pain I was in (my fault since I refused epidural)
I had my oldest there 19 years ago. I really liked the prenatal care and delivery with Kaiser: But that was quite some time ago and I was very young. My other experiences with Kaiser haven’t been as good.
I had both my girls at Kaiser sunset and had a great experience!
Gave birth at the end of last year at Kaiser sunset and had an INCREDIBLE experience. Count yourself blessed if Tui is your nurse at any point. She doesn’t talk much but she is a literal angel. I honestly loved all of my labor buses and most of my postpartum nurses (I was there for 5 days total so I saw looots of nurses) so you’re in amazing hands!
I had birth there. I had a good experience.
I am so happy to see this question asked! I hope more women keep sharing! I do all my prenatal visits at this location and although I enjoy them, I really can’t help but wonder about the delivery experience here being such a busy area/ location! Thanks for asking & sharing ladies!
I’ll add detail. I found the nursing staff to be a great team, they were coordinated, up to speed, and seemed well rested. They respected my process and were clearly up to date on the latest developments in science as well as wholistic approaches.. i was impressed that my nurses scoffed at having me back labor as they all suggested positions like sidelying and they even helped me use my balance ball while I was hooked up to the monitors. They didn’t rush me, I was provided a nurse midwife, and when it came time for active laboring, I had 12 nurses and doctors there, all working together to assist in the birth. They were all warm and kind and I felt like the room was full of encouragement and love. A lot of women say they don’t want all the nurses, but I loved it. I felt so supported. Every nurse had a job and that meant that the ones who were helping me push were completely focused. They didn’t have to think about anything except helping me push.
Ran out of characters above—- Afterwards: You need to know that if you are doing well, they will have you stay only as long as they need to monitor you and the baby. Once you’re ready to be discharged you should anticipate that it will feel like you’re being rushed out the door… which feels weird.. but try to remember that it’s a busy hospital and they probably need the space for the next mom and baby. Regarding guests: they let me have both my mother and husband in the room the entire labor, during the main event they encouraged my husband to help hold my leg and they showed him how. I hope you all have a positive experience.
Yes I've had both kids at 2 different kaiser one being sunset. I had a better experience in Panorama City Kaiser compared to Sunset. Sunset in 2008 I had to share a room and when I didn't my husband was told by one nurse to sleep on the empty bed and by another nurse not to. In Panorama City Kaiser 2015 I was treated so well, Me and my husband got a special dinner, and gifts from kaiser staff, everyone was super nice and helpful and we had our own room and my husband had his own bed. Hope this helps.
