They also have the spires which is the midwife led unit where I believe you can have a water birth, I saw it briefly and it looked lovely but my blood pressure was too high so I wasn’t allowed to give birth up there!
I gave birth on delivery suite 4 weeks ago. I had such a positive experience. The midwife’s there were amazing. They said they wanted to give me a positive birth experience and try to stick to my birth plan where possible and they did. They took time to read it to understand what was important to me. I had a rough time at Royal Berks with my first so this was a breath of fresh air. I had a private room and although they weren’t the most modern in the world, it really didn’t matter when you are in the middle of labour x
I haven’t had my baby yet but I’m planning to have my baby in their midwife led unit, spires. https://youtu.be/uuhk2Dr3Ve4 This is a link to the virtual tour they did of spires a while ago. Spires is the midwife led unit on the 7th floor of the woman’s centre. In the regular labour and delivery suite they do have one room with a pool I believe. I’ve been to the hospital for all my scans and I went to the assessment unit once and all the staff have been lovely, sorry I can’t help with the actual labour part 😅
I gave birth just under 2 weeks ago. They are fantastic. The birthing suite was so lovely. Had everything you could want and the care was second to none.
I gave birth in January in the JR at the spires which is midwife led. I had a water birth and it was amazing. The staff were great and respected all of my preferences / let me do what I needed to do. We were then moved to our own room with a double bed and my partner stayed the night too. Can't fault it. We also had a breastfeeding specialist come to see us the next day to help with latching etc. I had a great experience there 🥰
They have the Spires at the top floor which is amazing space with pools, more comfortables beds, aromatherapy and so on, which you can choose to use if you don’t have complications or big risks and if you don’t want epidural. I was hoping to be there, was assessed there, but in the end I went to the delivery suit which is a bit less equiped with nice things but where doctors are more easily available. Mind you, if you start in the Spires and something goes wrong, they can as easily move you downstairs. I had the best time in the JR, I honestly didn’t notice my midwives even go to the bathroom, they were constantly by my side, two shifts of 12 hours. My epidural took a long wait, but they manage who needs it most, so c-sections first, so you have to trust the process. Otherwise the people were amazing. After birth I went to the post-natal ward where you have 4 people per section but again, all nurses were very kind and attentive.
I had all 3 at the jr, the staff are absolutely amazing! I would recommend trying for the spires! X
I gave birth in delivery suite, they were absoutley amazing. Really recommend them. Had an amazing experience even when things didn’t go quite to plan they all kept things so calm and I felt safe the whole time. Started in maternity assessment to check how dilated I was and within 30 mins was in my own room in delivery suite xx
I’ve had both my boys at the JR, first ended in emergency section and second was elected. But while I laboured with my first I was on an antenatal ward but in my own room, the room was lovely but it was mid lockdown so I was alone, then got moved to the birthing suite before being taken down to theatre. After birth I was on a recovery ward with 3 other women for a few hours and then moved to a post natal ward, also with 3 other women Can’t fault the care especially whilst in delivery suite, the midwife was amazing. Second birth was elective section and everything went smoothly, staff were lovely and put you at ease
