I gave birth at St James in May this year. They was brilliant very under staffed but they was brilliant.
I had my girl at Lgi last Feb. For me it was perfect. Although my birth experience wasn't the best due to medical complications and a ln emergency section I couldn't fault the care....My girl was born with a few issues that required a stay in surgical neonatal for a week and then surgery at 2 weeks requiring another one week stay and they couldn't of been better... The specialist that we needed worked out of Lgi and we were told if she was born anywhere else in Yorkshire she would of been blue lighted to Lgi. The only thing I would say is that they were short-staffed l, most noticeably so on postnatal, however it was just at the back end of COVID and the same was happening everywhere. But the treatment my daughter received was second to non x
If I was to do it over, I'd pick St James. I had all my appointments there and they were always lovely. Ended up giving birth at LGI, and they were extremely neglectful and just rubbish with me. In the end, my partner ended up overstaying visiting hours as they did nothing to care for me (I had a c-section so wasn't mobile and couldn't even stand up to attend to my baby as they left me so long, with catheter still in and in a bed of my own blood). Not saying this to scare anyone, just to give my experience. I'd never go there again
I picked LGI personally as they have the lotus suite and I think they have more birth pools which is what I want. LGI also has the neonatal unit attached, if there was any reason baby needed care birthing at St James, they’d have to be transferred to LGI anyway as far as I know! Parking is better at St James tho, LGI hasn’t been the easiest. Your midwife should be able to explain the differences properly though x
I gave birth at LGI and couldn’t fault them xx
@Laura I’m due in august and currently at St James but my friend is there now and she is saying it’s really bad! I went for Jimmys as it’s familiar to me and parking is easier but I’m worried it’s gonna be chaos and I’ll be neglected! Can you still pay for private rooms do you know?
@Sophie tbh they was so short staffed, I was induced so went in for induction but because the labour ward was under staffed they broke my waters but couldn't take me to labour ward until I was in active labour. But labour ward staff was brilliant with me, the aftercare was the good too staff was om hand when needed. But I defo didn't have a bad experience with them. As far as I know the private rooms are now used for covid patients only
I’m at st James and been fantastic so far, I think it depends on what it is you are after but we are very lucky that we have two fantastic hospitals in Leeds to choose from 🤗
I dont think you can pay for private room on either since covid. In terms of care they are both very similar
I gave birth at LGI in May & did ask for a private room but they don’t even have private rooms anymore. They’re for covid patients x
I went with St James, honestly mainly due to parking and ease of getting there from where I live! Throughout pregnancy the MAC was amazing and I cannot fault them at all for that, was a positive experience every time (but also can’t compare to LGI as never went to the MAC there). I had my elective C-section at st James and that itself was a great experience, absolutely perfect. However, once I was moved to the post natal ward, I wasn’t overly happy with the atmosphere and care there. I ended up being discharged too soon (in hindsight), and we were in an ambulance to LGI (paediatric A&E) when my baby was 3 days old. So I then had a 3 night stay at LGI, and honestly I found the post natal care there miles better than what I’d had at Jimmy’s. From the two experiences of staying in both, I said next time I’d chose LGI. I was born in Jimmys as was everyone I know, and also have friends who had their babies there and everything was fine. But yeah… experiencing both was an eye opener xx
I’ve given birth in both and preferred at James’s 100%. As far as I’m aware you still can’t pay for private rooms as they are saved for covid x
I give birth in Leeds lgi and they was brilliant but st James are not that good or was not that good to me so just saying
