Crusty nipples after colostrum harvesting

After you do your colostrum harvesting do you clean your nipples or let the colostrum dry in? I’ve been thinking should i be using nipple cream? I’m just not aware if I should be cleaning the colostrum off my nipples once I’m done or leaving it there? When I do leave it it drys in and becomes like thin layer that I can peel/crack off.
