Hillingdon or Wexham?

Hello, Does anyone have any experience with Hillingdon or wexham park hospitals? I am currently assigned to Hillingdon hospital but I am seriously considering changing to Wexham park. They are both around the same distance from where I live and after looking at Wexham parks maternity unit tour video online I get a better feeling about it over Hillingdon. I am also considering a water birth and would definitely like to have that as an option and on the Hillingdon website it says they only have one birthing pool whereas Wexham has them in every room in the midwife led unit (currently I am a low risk pregnancy). Has anyone swapped hospitals before, is it a faf? I am currently 23.5 weeks and have all my midwife appointments scheduled so would these all be changed? Thanks for any advice x

Hi I went to Hillingdon and the birthing experience was good as the midwife’s were really nice, however it wasn’t excellent. I was induced and had an emergency c section and sometimes I do wonder if they sent me for a c section just to clear out the rooms. However the post birth ward was a mess and honestly one of the nurses was so mean to me and gave me a lecture on how to be a good mum even tho I just had her. Also felt as if I wasn’t checked on enough Because I was given a corner bed. But on the other hand there was one or two lovely nurses, so I think it’s up to luck sometimes. But for my next baby I would definitely go where I feel the care would be best even after birth. Hope this helps you, and good luck finding the best place for you !

Wexham park hospital is a lot lot better than hillingdon, the staff and the hospital are a lot nicer and cleaner. I had my baby at wexham and they was amazing with everything, you’re appointments might be changed to different dates but they will still most likely be around the same dates x

i had my boys at wexham and i loved my experience. it’s clean and the staff are so so lovely, id definitely recommend having your birth at wexham. i had a c-section and they made the whole experience so positive and walked me through everything. they also do in person tours of thsir maternity unit im pretty sure, so if i were you i would call them and arrange a day to go look around, so you can get a better feel of the place x

Ahh thank you all for the advice! ❤️ @Grace ooo that would be amazing if I could get an in person tour! I’m going to give them a call and see 🤞🏻 x

@Laur91 good luck!! xx

I had my first in Hillingdon and chose Wexham for 2nd baby, so far I’ve had really good experience with wexham, all test results come through on the app almost same day or latest next day and all with comments from the doctor/midwife which makes me reassured straight away without having to wait for a letter week later like I did in Hillingdon. The birthing is centre also so much better with more birthing pool rooms, have a look on their Instagram profile https://instagram.com/juniperbirthcentre_wph?igshid=MzRlODBiNWFlZA== they have just posted about what they offer while you’re in the maternity unit, and I think they do tours during the weekends just need to give them a call.

I had a bad experience at wexham, and have opted for a home birth via Hillingdon this time. I went with wexham as the facilities seemed so much better there at the time. It was towards the end of the pandemic so they basically wouldn't let me into the MLU saying I wasn't in active labour, and left me screaming in a corridor for an hour. My active labour ended up only 4 hours long. I can't speak for the birthing experience at Hillingdon, I know they're super short staffed and the equipment/building is run down, but my experience of the care there so far has been pretty good. I'm still opting for a home birth of I can though as I don't really want to set foot in any hospital again after last time!!

I moved to wexham from hillingdon at about 22 weeks! Best decision I made! It's not a faff at all! Best decision I made. Fyi wexham don't have pools in every room, I think they have about 4 but even the rooms without pools are so much nicer. In general the whole birthing centre which is where you have your midwife appointments too is so much nicer!

I had both of mine at Hillingdon. With my first, I was induced at 38+5 due to bleeding. I laboured for 7hrs & then my contractions stopped. They done a scan & saw i had placental abruption & i was haemorrhaging. They acted so fast, i was rushed down for a grade 1 emergency c section & my daughter was born 4 minutes later. My after care was amazing on the ward. For my second, we opted for an elective c section because of how traumatic my first birth was & i honestly cannot fault it. The whole experience was calm, i was a sack of nerves & in tears the whole time i was having my surgery but they were so reassuring. My aftercare again was fantastic. Whenever i pushed my buzzer, they were there to get my baby out of the cot & put him back, they checked on me every hour to make sure i was feeling ok & not in pain. I can’t recommend them enough but that it just my experience. I think it all depends on what midwife you have on the day aswell. X

I work at Hillingdon hospital neonatal unit and had my nearly 2 year old there too! Whatever is better for you!

Hillingdon is better over Middlesex hospital! The staff at Hillingdon would want you have another one before your ready 🙈🙈🙈

My experience at Hillingdon has been good so far (30 weeks). Just FYI they don’t currently have a birthing pool in the hospital due to building work, and don’t know when it will be back in place - midwife running the antenatal class I went to didn’t know. So I’m assuming that’s not going to be an option for me in September. https://thh.nhs.uk/maternity-duchess-of-kent-unit-for-women-newborn-babies/#
