No heartbeat

Heartbeat not found at transvaginal ultrasound at 8 weeks 1 day but fetus has grown in size. I am ready to accept the worst but it just confuses me how is the fetus growing if there is no heartbeat and strangely 2 yolk sac were found in today’s scan. How is that possible this late. Please see reference pictures from last week’s scan and today’s.

Any chance of a tilted uterus or just having your gestational age a bit off due to late ovulation and implantation?

The dates are for sure as I got IUI done but yes the doctor had mentioned that I have a retroverted uterus. But the scans were done vaginally not from abdomen.

@Padma Actually a tilted uterus can cause some difficulty with detecting the heartbeat pretty early on with transvaginal scans too. Even at 8 weeks. I wouldn't be too worried just yet. Sometimes for early scans if you have a tilted uterus they need more advanced ultrasound equipment.

@Brenda wow really? That gives me a bit of hope now. Thank you. I will take a second opinion to be sure.

Oh wow lovely scan.. i hope you get twins 😍

@Sonia thanks but at this moment just concerned of not finding the heartbeat of baby… still trying to find some hope this pregnancy survives.

What did the doctor say during the scan? Keeping everything crossed for you x

@Jessica doctor is not showing any hope and she is indicating a miscarriage.

@Padma sorry to hear this. When do you have your next scan?

@Nicola the second picture is from today at 8 weeks and yes the growth is measuring behind. That’s why the doctor is not so sure anymore. I am sure of my ovulation date since it was an IUI.

@Jess thanks, hoping the best for you 🤞🏻

@Jessica I will go for a second opinion tomorrow and then decide for next steps.

@Padma did they not book you in for a scan in a weeks time? Recently gone through this myself and they scanned me every week.

@Jessica its a lost case as per them so looking for another doctor’s opinion before I decide to get D&C

@Padma oh yes I’d definitely get a 2nd option, 8 weeks is still early and having a tilted uterus will make it that bit more difficult to see! Good luck tomorrow and keep us posted x

@Nicola its around 1.5 weeks behind it looks like a 6 weeks 6 days GA when it should be 8 weeks 1 day. I felt the same that she did not investigate enough before advising, hence I will check with another doctor this week.

@Jessica thanks!

@Nicola thank you

I had 2 sacs when I went for mine at 5 weeks then at 8 then at 11 weeks but buy the time I went for my 13 week scan it had disappeared all together xxx

I was 7 weeks and had nothing in my ultrasound yet my HCG levels were showing 7 weeks. 2 weeks later my ultrasound showed my baby with a powerful heartbeat. Give it time!

Was it a private scan by any chance?x

Definitely get a second opinion. One of my friend’s sister had the same issue and it was good she didn’t listen to first doctor as now her daughter is a healthy 12yo! Definitely re scan to make sure since 8 weeks is so early.

Praying for you mama 🙏🏽❤️ give it time and remember you are never ever obliged to do something you don’t want to. If you want to wait, then wait longer

I went for my 8 week scan and my baby measured 6.5 weeks no heartbeat, but two weeks later they scanned again and she measured 8.5 weeks and showed heartbeat. I know you're sure about the dates, but the body works in mysterious ways. If there's growth there's hope. Hopefully it's the tilted uterus that caused them not to pick up the heartbeat along with possibly being earlier on than you think. I don't know how or why that would happen with the IUI but again, if there's growth there's hope. Get a second opinion.

Just seen your in the us so you don't have seperate doctors. If it helps, I paid for a private scan at 9 weeks (only DTD once that month so was sure of the dates) The sac measures at just about 6 weeks with no heartbeat which obviously made no sense given the time of conception being 3 weeks behind. So hinted miscarriage Went for a second opinion the day after due to being distraught and they found the baby measuring only 3 days behind 9 weeks not 3 weeks, heartbeat and all. He's now 6 weeks old. So it might be a doctor's error.x

I had a missed miscarriage December last year. When I went for my scans, there was no growth and no heartbeat between the two weeks wait of the scans, so we knew unfortunately I had a miscarriage. I definitely would wait a week or two and maybe pay for a private scan to get a second opinion….it sounds quite promising that baby is growing. Sending you lots of hope xx

If you are having a miscarriage, please do not perform a d&c. It scrapes your uterus. Let your body naturally birth the fetus. Sometimes the dr can do an examination on the fetus to tell you what malfunction. I had a miscarriage at 10 weeks, fetus stopped growing at 7 weeks. My dr didn’t not perform a d&c on me because she knew I wanted to get pregnant. So she told me let my body pass it. It took a week for it to pass, and when it did I took it to her that same day and gave it to her to examine. She gave me back results of malfunction but I wish you luck !

I want to thank you all for being so supportive and sharing your experiences. Its a diagnosed missed miscarriage case. There were mono/mono twins which stopped growing and there was never a heartbeat. I don’t have any active miscarriage symptoms so have to get it removed medically. Even though I am going through this, I am keeping a high hope that I will get another chance soon and it will all be okay. Wishing you all the best and hope to connect again.
