Carobel milk thickener

Hi, my LB was on carobel from 8 days old until last week (he’s 9 weeks old now) and we took him off it in the end because we found it made him so mucousy in his throat; he was constantly choking and his breathing at night was so loud as it just sat in his throat. We have just been prescribed omeprazole - would you be able to tell me what it was like for your little one. How you administered it and why you think it didn’t work? Thanks. We are currently awaiting an appointment for a camera to go down my sons nose and throat to see his acid levels as he has bad reflux

Hi amber, thanks for sharing that sounds horrific! I hope your little one is ok 😞 I’m scared to try anything with him as he’s so unsettled as it is to then add something else in the mix! so he was started on a very low dose about a few weeks old working up to the 10mg daily depending on there weight doctor will know, it’s a tablet you break in half then dissolve it in 10ml of sterile cold water then give the correct dose threw a syringe. I feel like I didn’t notice a difference in his symptoms as this kind of medicine you should really see a difference within days doctor said if anything I’m not sure if it was giving him more of a sore tummy as find he can cry more the days I have gave him it to when I’ve tried without to see a difference. I also feel it constipated him so have gave up with it he’s been on it for weeks now he’s (8 weeks) on and off and no difference to when he has it to when he doesn’t hope this helps x

My little girl has been on carobel with pepti 1 formula since 3 weeks and she’s been absolutely fine. I do feel like she takes longer to drink her bottle but she opens her bowels well and gets her wind up okay. X

@Charlotte thanks for letting me know Charlotte do you feel it works for the reflux or colic side of things have you noticed a difference with that? X

I was on lansoprozol and omeprozol for my 8 week old she was on from 4 weeks and no difference and constipated her! We recently started using carobel and now kve took her off lansoprozol! Shes a new child! And isn’t constipated anymore and nearly all reflux gone! Im so upset i never done it sooner! Funny how everyone is so different

Where do you get the carobel from may I ask? I’ve had a look online and can only seem to get it on Amazon it’s not in any shops?

@Claire if you little one has reflux ask doctor to prescribe it! They prescribe it to most people

@Gemma I think the pepti 1 milk has helped with the colic and the thickener has reduced her reflux. Xxx

@Charlotte sorry to ask on an old thread but how much Carobel do you use in a feed?

@Siân my little girl has one scoop of carobel in a 5oz bottle. Size 2 mam teat. Shake the bottle for a few minutes so it thickens up xx
