What is better? Moses basket or next to me cribs?

I know a lot of people say both but i’m trying to save money where I can. I was set on a moses basket as easy to move around, cheaper etc, but worried they aren’t as breathable material and do babies outgrow them quickly as they don’t look that large? If anyone has any thoughts that’d be grand, thanks!

I have both and my baby doesn’t like Moses basket as he has no visibility. I would say next to me crib is better and I would also get a nest for when you are in the living room/sofa

Moses baskets literally last like a few weeks as baby outgrows them so quick , where as next to me lasts up to 6 months x

Look into a snuz pod you can get the frame second hand and get a new mattress for 30 pound that’s what I done and it has à detachable bassinet so you can move it up and downstairs x

My boy outgrew the Moses basket really quickly. You can get second hand next to me cribs and replace the mattress. I wouldn’t buy a next to me new, my boy moved out of it at 17 weeks so wasn’t worth the £200 & they don’t keep their value

Next to me is so much better!!! Moses baskets are so much smaller, we had one and ended up having to buy a next to me by the time she was a month old 🤦‍♀️

I started with moses baaket bit she outgrew it in 7 weeks then i got a next to me crib but only thing is cant take it downstairs, so if i was to give advice if i had it, it would be get a next to me crib and buy a 2nd hand travel got for downstairs for daytime naps x

I think moses baskets are much cheaper generally but they dont last anywhere near as long, they are so small and baby outgrows very quickly so I think you get more for your money with a next to me. I also dont think the baskets look as safe or breathable. I'll probs leave next to me upstairs and use pram or something else downstairs for baby to sleep in x

@Carmen this was the same as my little one! She hated the Moses basket as she couldn’t see out really x

Thanks all! You have confirmed my suspicions haha so i’ll definitely go for next to me cribs! Thanks guys☺️

I have both, Moses basket stays downstairs for naps and next to me stays up for night time. Moses baskets are very short term solutions, baby grows out of them within a couple of months where as the next to me is a lot bigger. Have a look on marketplace for a secondhand Moses basket? Or I recommend a good boppy pillow for them to nap in on the sofa. My 16 month old still naps on hers!

I’m planning on a next to me for nighttime and probably just using the newborn bassinet from the pram for downstairs naps

I’ve got a next to me & I love it. I live in a one story place so i got one with wheels & I just wheel it around to which ever room I’m in. Baby doesn’t mind being wheeled it in either, so helpful because we don’t have to transfer her. She’s currently 3 months & 60cm’s, with lots of room to grow in it still. I love that I can drop down the side and reach in & out quickly. Plus my girl loves a hand on her chest to settle her, so I can lay in bed with my hand on her chest without having to sit up, then put the side back up once I’m done.

I had both and we never used the next to me as my LO didn't like it

I wouldn't say they're comparable. The moses basket is much smaller and we will just be using ours for when he's downstairs and sleeping. The next to me is his proper bed and will last much longer as he grows x

My baby never really used the Moses basket except when we’ve been away it was easier to transport. Still in his next to me every night at 5 months x

Personal preference but I got the majority of my LOs stuff on Facebook marketplace. Babies will only be in it for 6 months then never use it again. Not enough time for things to be ruined, and nothing a good scrub couldn’t sort. I had a very tight budget and saved where I could - I would definitely recommend having a look at least!

@Amy thank you! Yeah i’m deffo up for secondhand stuff; seems like a no brainer!

They will get more use out of a bevy to me I got mine from smyths it’s so nice and only £50 ! Xx

I got Moses basket for £15 on FB marketplace and a next to me for £20 + £20 for new mattress. Some days/nights he prefers one over the other 🤷🏻‍♀️ but since we have the bedroom upstairs and living room downstairs i try to keep him in the Moses basket during day time and next to me during night couldn’t imagine having to be going up and down every day with either My little one is 5 weeks and still has good 10-15cm from the top of his head to the top of the Moses basket…

Skip both and get a pack and play that also has a bassinet add on. I use the 4 moms breeze plus. You can put it next to your bed with the bassinet and then use the bottom part later for their bed. Saves money and space. We didn't get a crib because we didn't want to have too much furniture and we also didn't want to swap 3 beds within a few years.

If you want to only buy one then a next to me will last you longer as it goes up to 6 months. I had both but my son only slept in his Moses basket for 3 weeks (he was a larger baby). We did continue to use it downstairs for up to 6 weeks but that was all he got out of it.

I started with a Moses basket and my daughter was 6lbs 11oz when she was born, I even said how will she ever fill it as she looked so lost in it, but soon came along 4 months when she could no longer sleep in it as she was too long for it. I then had to purchase a next to me and she’s now 5 months and still has plenty of room, I wish I had got this from the start instead of having both.

If you want a Moses basket as well, like for downstairs, there are always hundreds on Facebook marketplace because people get rid of them after 2 months! The mattresses are really cheap to replace too x

I got Moses basket. And instead of next to me I got a cot that can open up on one side and I used it like next to me so I didn’t have to go through bed transition phase. In the end my LO slept in the cot pretty much from the beginning and still does, I ended up using Moses basket for day naps downstairs.

We had a Moses basket up until now, he’s 4 months old and got too big so now in a next to me. A Moses basket is nice as more compact for when they are little but you could just get a next to me straight away to save you buying both like I have! X

I vote next to me. They are so convenient.

Second hand ones are cheap if you want to try both and see what works for you better. But mine didn’t like either so we cosleep instead.

My baby didn’t like the Moses basket. Next2me is bigger so lasts longer and I loved being able to reach out to comfort her without getting up

Baby loves moses. Its a wicker basket so literally loads of holes super breathable. It's up to you what or how much bedding you put on it, there are lots of options. We just had a sheet on the sides until this week and I put the tog layer on the side too. Mattress is breathable and one thin sheet is fine LO refused next to me

We had both mainly because the Moses basket was given to us but if I had to choose one I’d choose the next to me and just use the bassinet from the pram for his naps

I would say if you live in a house it's a good idea to have 2, I couldn't carry anything for 6 weeks so when my husband went back to work would have struggled taking our moses basket downstairs in the morning. We didn't have a next to you, we had a crib upstairs. You can but secondhand but make sure you replace any mattresses

We used both, Moses basket only lasted 2 months though. It was nice for transporting through the house but they grow out of it quick
