Blighted ovum success stories?

Hi all! I am approx 8 weeks pregnant and spotted a few days ago which prompted an initial trans abdominal scan. Much to our dismay this showed an empty gestational sac 😓 measuring about 7w6days (30mm). I’ve been told to await a natural miscarriage. The spotting has now stopped however. I suffer from PCOS and hence irregular cycles and wonder if I need a follow up scan at all? Should this be a transvaginal scan or is a trans abdominal enough at this stage? I also have a retroverted uterus.

You should definitely have a follow-up scan. Mine was arranged for 2 weeks later

If they don't offer you a follow up scan and you don't start bleeding, I would definitely push for a scan in 2 weeks. Keep an eye on how you're feeling too, any bad nausea and you should call earlier!

@Siobhan how far along were you when you had your first scan?

You should definitely be having a scan after 2 weeks to make sure you’ve passed everything. Anything left behind can cause an infection and make you really poorly. My second scan was internal, my understanding is there’s not enough to be able to see it externally. I’m so sorry you’re going through this 💔

@Amber i was 7 weeks when i had my first and they wanted to check in two weeks in case my dates were just wrong
