Santa Teresa kaiser
I didn’t like my experience at Kaiser Santa Clara and won’t go back for the next birth
I birthed at Good Samaritan. Idk if I'd recommend. Some of the nurses were great, others not so much. I feel like they pushed for a quick delivery (e.g. encouraged interventions) when I told them I wanted to birth naturally and when it finally came time to push they didn't have any OBs available because they were all in surgery. Apparently Good Sam has a very high C-section rate which I did not know about when I picked PAMF as my ob/gyn practice (PAMF exclusively births at Good Sam). Good Sam does have a level 3 NICU though which was important to me when choosing a hospital to birth at. They ran out of rooms in the mother and baby ward when we delivered so we stayed in the antepartum unit which is where they typically put l&d overflowed. This was actually really nice for my husband who got to sleep on his own hospital bed rather than those tiny uncomfortable sleeper chair/futons that are typical at the hospital.
@Alex you should mention which PAMF location you chose? Sunnyvale and Mountain View delivers exclusively at el Camino hospital :)
I would only say stay away from good Sam if you are interested in natural birth with less intervention.
I heard this many times that santa clara kaiser have most of the training students in L & D department that’s why i choose to go to santa teresa kaiser. @Andrea
I birthed at Good Sam (San Jose)and and el Camino (los gatos). I has the best experience at good Sam. While both places didn’t believe I was in labor and called my doctor late Good Sam the nurses were actually nicer and listed to me about the pain. El Camino nurses told me I felt the pain in the wrong places so it couldn’t be real. They also made me hold my son in for a half hour so my doctor could make it. They did have an in House doctor that could have delivered but she also told me I had to hold my son in. They also gave me drugs I did not ask for. I’m pregnant with my third and plan on going back to Good Sam. At least they let me birth when I was ready and not hold my legs closed
@Corazon it might depend on how busy l&d is. When I birthed at Good Sam my son practically jumped out of me but I was told to hold him in until a doctor could make it. Then when the doctor got there I was told to push hard and fast. He was out in 3 contractions @ just under 10lbs and I ended up with a 2nd degree tear.
@Alex I was the only one in l&d both times. I know at Good Sam they had a busy night the night before because I went in but they sent me home. At El Camino it was Super Bowl Sunday and they said the entire place was dead all day and I was the only one patient on the floor. My doctor told me I was too calm both times that’s why nurses didn’t believe me. But at El Camino the nurses were so bad that my doctor actually had the head nurse of my birth team fired. Good Sam she yelled at everyone and all of L&D hear it. She was feared at Good Sam because she never held back.
I had a good experience at Good Samaritan for my first birth. My second birth I had at Kaiser Santa Clara and the labor and delivery nurses were great but I didn’t get a very good post partum nurse, she left me in the bathroom to run and get more supplies but never came back. It just depends on which nurse you get but the facility itself and food at Kaiser was good!
In Mountain View, but I gave birth @ El Camino Hospital and had a good experience. I think it’s ultimately who your nurse is that makes a huge difference.
