How are you getting baby to sleep?

How are people getting there little ones off to sleep and where do they sleep? See some people put down drowsy but awake but wonder how many actually achieve this? I’ve got to rock or bum tap my baby to sleep in my arms and her to be in a deep sleep before I put her down for bed or during the night. During the day mainly will only contact nap but after maybe an hour I try to put her down and sometimes (rarely) she will stay asleep.

Omg following as I have the same one 😅

We contact nap during the day. At night, we literally feed, change, cuddles, sing/read a story, more cuddles and kisses, then put our LO in bed, and he falls asleep within 5 minutes

Needs to be rocked to sleep but I think he self soothes during the evenings, I’m not sure!! I don’t think awake but drowsy would work for us, though maybe I’m too scared to try!

Contact naps during the day, usually she needs rocking & shushing. The last 2 or 3 nights I’ve managed to get her sleep in the crib from being awake by shushing & keeping a hand on her tummy, last night she was asleep within 10 mins! She’s going through the sleep regression atm so hoping she will be able to self settle soon. Any nap in the car or pram or carrier only lasts 45 mins so have to hold her if I want her to have a proper nap

Drowsy but awake doesn't work for us. The only thing that works for us is feeding to sleep, and then have to wait until he's in a deep enough sleep before I put him in the next to me crib. This is for night time sleep. During the day he will often snooze on me after a feed, but only for short periods, and if I try to move him into the crib he wakes up instantly.

Feed to sleep most of the time unless I've screwed up and he's over tired, then I walk around with him until he's asleep. Day time naps are on me, in the travel cot downstairs, or in the carrier, sometimes the buggy. Night time in his cot set up like a giant next to me. I always put him down asleep. 🙂

Contact napping during the day. Then at night time we do bath bottle and bed, he has his bottle, I burp him then lay him in my arms, stroke his nose until his eyes shut then I put him in his bed. He rubs his own face to sleep again if he wakes up. He rubs his hands on his face and self soothes. He’s been doing this since about 9 weeks old and he’s 13 weeks now. If he doesn’t get himself off to sleep I will place my hand on his belly and stoke his nose and he normally goes back off. I find contact napping in the day helps him sleep so well at night xx

I put my baby down sometimes drowsy sometimes pretty awake then put a little aniseed and glycerin sugar free on her soother and rub down her eyes to her nose and it works everytime! In a dark room with white noise

I do try to put down drowsy but awake, he has gone asleep this way a handful of times but generally needs to be cuddled to sleep. He goes to sleep quickly so not too bad and during the night if he wakes I just feed and put him back down, no need to rock or cuddle then

Natalie exactly the same as u!

Ahh thank you everyone. Seems a lot of people don’t actually put down drowsy - I think I’d really struggle with my little girl to do that! The reason I asked is because apparently I’ve read that if you use these parent associations when the 4 month sleep regression happens they’ll wake every sleep cycle wanting to be rocked/patted to sleep and not able to self settle without sleep training 🤯 not sure how true this is x

I have a 16month old and a 3 month old so there is no time for tapping or rocking . it’s simply white noise on pop him in the crib with a dummy and run back down stairs x

@Natalie honestly it's absolute crap.

My baby self soothes all day and night she will play and everything and if she’s tired she will just fall asleep I don’t have to hold her or anything but I did find she didn’t settle properly in her next to me crib so I had to change her bed completely and now she settles to sleep by herself I feed her at bed time and then she falls asleep but not deeply and then she goes in her bed and if she wakes up she soothes herself back to sleep

During the day it's a battle, rocking, patting, walking, shusshing and 90% of the time sleeping my my arms. At night it's bath, bottle, pop him in his sleep suit and into his next to me and off to sleep no issues, i honesty dont get it xx

Feed to sleep all the time except when out she falls asleep in the pram, contact nap sometimes during the day and always put down once shes asleep i normally wait 10-15 minutes once shes fallen asleep in my arms to then put her down

Contact naps during the day then in his cot at night. He will go down awake at night but during the day he will go down but will wake after about 10-15 mins so I decided to let him sleep on me as he sleeps better x

I'm exactly the same as you Natalie! I keep thinking 'I need to put her down drowsy but awake' but the few times I've actually tried her eyes ping wide open and then it's back to rocking again. Most of the time I can't even face putting her down drowsy because I know it will result in more rocking if (when) she wakes up fully from being put down! I've been dreading the 4 month regression because of not being able to put her down drowsy too! X

Contact naps in the day and then for bed it’s feed to sleep before I put her down. If she’s awake in any form she’ll get unsettled and work herself up making it even harder to put her down

@Sarah yeah that’s how I feel about the rocking, I know I’ll just make things worse so I don’t even try haha x

Any success of reducing daytime contact napping, I am struggling as my lo sleeps well in crib at night but day he only sleeps on us and wakes up in few mins if we put him in crib even in deep sleep
