@Sammie oh thank god. Yeah my boy has roughly 6oz every 3 hours and is also long and lean! He never wants more than 6 so can’t exactly force more 😂xx
breastmilk adapts to your baby’s age and needs. It is a general rule of thumb that “generally” a baby won’t need more than 4oz of breastmilk in a bottle. So your baby is deffo eating more than most 😂😂
@Sammie I know! Just weird how he doesn’t wanna gain weight😂 went today after 2 weeks and he only gained 2oz dropping him further off the 9th centile🙄
They suggest between 1-1.5oz per hour. So that'd be anything between 24 and 36oz in a 24 hour period. I cant help anymore than that as my boy only has a couple of bottles a week with his dad. He feeds roughly every 2hours on the breast. Sleeps a longer stint overnight. Varies how long. But I always give dad 3oz per 2 hours. He is usually with dad for 4 hours, and only seems to really drink 1 of the bottles, so just 3oz but then catches up on an additional feed when he gets home on the breast. X
My boy is 14 weeks today and whether it’s expressed breast milk or formula he takes about 5.5oz every 3 hours. Roughly 30-33 oz a day as he doesn’t always finish it. He’s just started taking a 6.5oz bottle before bed but that’s the only one he is consistently taking of the larger size, as if he knows it’s got to last him until 5am ish!
4oz every 2 hours during the day, (sleeps through at night 10-7ish) he has approx 28oz overall. He won't take more than 4oz. He is gaining weight but is slowly dropping on centiles, he is only 13lb at 19 weeks
@Heather-Jayde it’s so difficult. My boy is 17 weeks and is only 12lb9 x
@Beth what centile does that put him on? We are just on the bottom line for the 9th. He had a really big weight loss at birth so we are still under the hospital for it as he then shot up to 25th then slowly dropping, got an appointment Friday to see if he's dropped into 2nd, then if he has we've got to fortify his milk 🙄 which is a pain as he has lactose intolerance or cmpa, not fully tested but formula makes him really poorly (he's had it 4 times) I don't have any dairy as im lactose intolerant so probably that..
@Beth also just seen your boy has the same name as my almost 3yo 🥰🥰
@Heather-Jayde he’s just dropping off the 9th. We only had a 1% loss at birth but he was fully breastfed then. We had to move to bottles due to issues on my side of things. I have tried all the off the shelf formulas and he’s tried the dairy free prescription which he hated every kind. Only wants breast milk so I really don’t want to change! I have been dairy free for a while now too as he has bad eczema so can’t be that either! Can’t seem to win😂 isn’t long until weaning though so hopefully he’ll gain better with that (well that’s what the HV hoped!😅) And aw no way! Best name choices eh hehe xx
Mines just upped himself to 6oz bottles, has between 6-7 bottles a day but if it's 7 he's not been finishing them during the day, usually has 35oz ish
We combi feed and my 4 month old has 3 6oz of breast milk a day, and then 2 6oz of formula. Before my supply started to drop he was on 5 6oz feeds a day x
@Reena god that actually put him even lower. Shouldn’t have looked🤦♀️😩. And not at the moment as one week he gained 10oz in a week and this was 2oz in 2 weeks. So the weight gain is so variable! But more recently it’s been slowing. They’re going to look more into it next week if it’s another small gain x
My boys 13 weeks and takes mostly 5/6 ozs a feed every 3 - 4 hours . All babies have varied appetites, so what’s normal for one baby isn’t for another. Try not to worry and speak with the health visitor xx

My son is 4 months (end of August) and he's just started drinking about 35oz when he was averaging about 28oz.
@Reena I just wanna point out that this is not me weighing him at all. This is done by the health visitor weekly and returning weekly is down to them requesting it due to concerns I had at the start with his lack of feeding (now not an issue). Since then, they’ve been asking me to keep coming so they can see if there’s any serious drops
@Reena yeah exclusive expressing. Tried combi feeding but that didn’t work for us so just breast milk now. I guess you’re right with the weigh ins. I’ll go next week as they did ask me too but I’m going to suggest not going frequently anymore to see if this helps us stop worrying about it all!
@Beth sounds very similar, my boy was fully breastfed, no issues with supply his latch was fine just wasn't working out for us he lost 17% and he was only 6lb8 to begin with! We were hospitalised for 2 weeks because of it. We've only tried aptamil hipp and kendamil and he projectile vomited every time!
@Reena he doesn’t seem to want anymore milk than we offer. The amount he takes in a day is what he is content with at the moment. He’s not draining bottles so not much point giving more if he already isn’t finishing what’s given. Think the fortifying comment was somebody else :)
@Reena we've tried to guve him more breast milk and he literally won't take any more than 4oz, we've tried dream feeding, waking to feed adding literally 10ml extra in each bottle ext, he just won't take any more than 24oz a day. We were hospitalised for 2 weeks whilst they monitored him, they did every test possible and could find anything, but we are still under peadiatrics and have a check up Friday. I checked that app and it puts him on the 5th centile. My 3yo is fairly small too, he was born on the 24th and stayed around there but only on the 9th for his height.
@Reena we also have weekly weights done as recommended by the hospital, we were having daily then every other day when he was smaller
@Reena that's okay 😅 it's the first advice I would give normal, wish he would take it, I've got such a great supply, I hate the fact it isn't quite good enough for him!
@Reena that advice was from the breastfeeding specialists at the hospital, if he drops below this next line we will be having a little MTD meeting to see where to go from there. My first had feeding issues too but different, he had poor latch tongue tie and severe reflux, so was slow to gain, but as it was during covid they didn't do a frenotomy 🙄 we ended up starting weaning at 19 weeks under peads, dietician and HV support. Which looking back was absolutely crazy!!
My baby is 15 weeks old and has 4oz every 3 hours so from when he wakes up to bed i’d say he has 24oz a day. My baby isn’t chubby at all in fact he has dropped off a centile but i am not worried and neither is the dr. Breastmilk adapts and changes to baby’s needs and age. He is long and lean. He is happy too and never wants more than 4oz. Xx
