Pain after ultrasound

Pic of scan for attention šŸ˜‚ So I have an apron belly and had my dating scan today! Baby was not cooperating and letting the tech see them, so she seemed like she was digging the wand into my skin. I was expecting it to be more difficult for her to see because of the cold and I was fully prepared to hold it up if I needed to. But it kind of just seemed like she was being really rough with wand , she was jabbing it, digging it, rubbing it and twisting it, all on the same spot in my fold. Now it seems like I have some form of friction burn or irritation from this, it’s painful to walk and move about, it’s painful to take my trousers and pants down and up when needing the toilet. So I was just wondering if anyone else has had this issue or if I should maybe speak to my midwife about it, to me it felt really rough and although I’m glad I have a couple good pictures of baby I am in agony and makes me not want to experience it again 😢

I find ultrasound scans always so painful, I haven’t had friction burn, but I do get like a feeling if that area was all bruised afterwards and it’s so painful for a few days 😄

This exact scenario happened to me! I was in SO MUCH pain after my second ultrasound. My fold was irritated for a few days after. Honestly I was applying Vaseline to it for days after just so the skin wasn’t rubbing together. I have heard a lot of people say that the tech was really rough on them because they had a belly/were bigger. My next ultrasound I had an older lady and she was so much more gentle. It was like day and night. Knowing how different the experiences were, I plan to tell the tech next time if she is being too rough. We can reschedule if baby is cooperating. It’s not worth hurting me over! I have a lot of ultrasounds being high risk for BMI so I just don’t want to be hurt if I know I don’t have to be! I’m so sorry this happened to you.

I have apron and for our ultrasounds I lifted it up and they had no problems, if I was you I would say something it's completely unnecessary for them to push so hard for it to cause burn or pain afterwards. Massive congratulations they are adorable ā¤ļø

Definitely in future lift up the apron but I automatically still do it now and I’m almost 37 weeks some feel awkward to ask they remind me now I don’t need to but it helps the pain

That’s not normal. I had a reaction to the gel at the end of my pregnancy but other than that no pain from any of my scans and I had A LOT of scans.

If you have her again ask for more gel!

Im a big girl and have an apron too, my baby is now 10wks. Everytime I had an ultrasound it felt like torture. I was in pain and sore for days after 🫠

@Jenny see I thought it was bruising till I looked in the mirror and lifted it up and it was like scarlet red and really painful 😢

@Michaela I have been putting aloe gel on it to sooth it and so there isn’t any further rubbing bc it hurt so much to even get up and walk yesterday 🄲

@Cassandra I never thought that it could be a reaction to the gelšŸ¤” but even my partner asked when we got out if I was okay bc it looked rough

@April sounds like a terrible tech. Sorry you had to go through that! Don’t be afraid to say something if that happens again. It shouldn’t hurt.

@April see if you can get some cavalon cream from the chemist it will help it to heal a lot quicker with where it is

@Georgina I’ve put some antiseptic cream on it today as I got my partner to check it and my skin has like actual friction burn😤 so I’ve taken pictures and I’m going to show the midwife when I’m in next bc that isn’t normal and I shouldn’t be in pain after! Not like this anyways

@April yea definitely not! Antiseptic may not be the best for friction burn though you need a barrier cream x
