The only reason for a September baby is that they will be one of the eldest in the class which could be an advantage, A late August baby will be the youngest.
In theory early September because the school year cut off is the 31st August so a September baby would be the eldest in the school year. My lo’s due date was the 1st September but she decided to come on the 29th August so she will be the youngest in the year but you can choose to hold them back if you don’t think they are ready. My lo is forward for her age so I don’t think I’ll have a problem but it is something we will decide when we get to school age. My sister having worked in a nursery said to me that it doesn’t necessarily matter because she’s seen kids that are the eldest in the year that you think definitely aren’t ready for school and to get kids that are the younger ones in the year that you think definitely are ready for school. She said it’s very child dependent. What I find the weirdest is that her youngest was born October 2022 and my lo was born August 2023 but they will be in the same school year 🤯.
@Antonia that’s helpful, thank you. We figured it would be child dependant as you can have a confident child born in Aug, or a child that needs more support in Sept/Oct. I just thought birthday parties are probably easier for the later babies 😂
Yeah definitely child dependent. My lo is confident and babbles at anyone that will listen 😂😂. Yeah my mum (who is an early August baby) said birthday parties were always difficult because people were usually on holiday as it was the school holidays but hopefully with it being the end of August people will be back from their holidays 😂.
My baby girl was due and was born on 30/8/23 (due date baby!!) she will obvs be one of the youngest in her year but she’s absolutely thriving rn!!
My little girl was due on the 30th of August, she came on the 18th. As everyone else said, people like it so their child won’t be the youngest but personally, I wanted her to be born in August due to financial reasons as with things like funded hours in nursery, it comes in the term after their 2nd or 3rd birthday so would come in September for her but if she was born in September wouldn’t come in until January. Also as she will go to school just after her birthday id have one less year of paying for childcare fees😂. I’m an end of July birthday and I was always fine so it’s definitely child dependent but most children are fine to go to school just after their 4th birthday! Also I think it’s nice for them to have their birthday in the summer holidays as I always loved it haha! But of course I would’ve been happy for her to have come in her own time, September babies are also great but financially I’m glad she came when she did😅xxx
I think in terms of childcare hours though if born in August then you qualify from sept 1st but if born in sept then you wouldn't qualify until April 1st.
@Carly I work in a nursery, it goes on the term after their birthday either Jan, April or Sept so if born in August would be September, born in September would be Jan x
@Ellie-Rose ah thanks for clarifying, I'm due at the end of March so only knew about the April/Sept dates.
@Ellie-Rose thanks, helpful insight and very good points!
I was hoping for sept but we ended up having baby on 25/8. The downside is one of the youngest in the year, a whole year less in nursery so could be behind a sept baby developmentally. The upside is we don’t have to pay for an extra year in nursery. £££
We have the exact same due date😅😅😅
