Iron tablets after a C Section make stools black?

I recently had a C section and was prescribed iron tablets due to low iron in my bloods after. I’ve had loss in appetite since and now my stools are almost black. I’ve read this can be a side affect of iron tablets but I’m also worried about internal bleeding due to the section 🫣. Has anyone else experienced iron tablets making their stools really dark?

Yes! Mine went completely black when taking them. It’s normal but if you are worried because of the procedure get it double checked

yes! don’t worry they are very known for making it black, you’re lucky you’re not constipated as that’s the next symptom🤣☹️

This is very common, I've worked in adult care for many years and you can always tell who's on iron tablets 😅 I wouldn't worry personally but it's always best to ask a professional if you are, never hurts to put your mind at ease!

Yeah! Iron tablets are the worst for that 😫 they also irritate my IBS but it beats anaemia 🤷‍♀️

@Libby omg the constipation too is real!!🤣

Thank you everyone that’s really reassuring🤍 I feel so much better now!

As above yes! I am 6 days postpartum, ask for some laxatives early on, very normal to need them alongside apparently but I left hospital and regret not asking. The iron tablets can make your stools quite hard and tricky to pass and this is especially really hard to pass after the section as it hurts your incision point. You also shouldn’t really strain!
