UoU or IMC?

If you had to choose to deliver between the University of Utah Hospital and the Intermountain Medical Center in Murray, which one do you think is best? Our insurance covers both. We are very new to Utah. We would like to become pregnant this year. Thank you in advance!!!

U of U. They are the best equipped. If anything does not go as expected, they can handle it. I am a healthcare provider and most of my friends are healthcare providers. Every one of them chose to deliver at the U. I delivered there and was fairly happy with it (high risk delivery). I prefer healthcare at the U than Intermountain in general. That being said, the U is a teaching hospital, so you will have exposure to residents, etc.. With that comes some excellent attendings a though. Ask for a room with a tub. You don’t have to give birth in it, but it’s awesome for pain relief.

I had a really positive experience at the U. Awesome nurses, a free volunteer doula, and a birthing tub. Would definitely recommend!

Not sure if your insurance covers St Mark’s but I’ve delivered all three of my babies with Dr. Jennifer Kinghorn and have been so impressed with her and the nursing staff.

I have been loving everything about the U. My ob is incredible. My sis-in law had her baby IMC and it sounded like some of their practices are potentially dangerous or out of date.

I delivered at the U of U 3 years ago and I’d definitely deliver there again. The nurses are great and the midwife group I used were amazing. I used to work there also, I feel like the standard is set higher there.

U of U hands down! I delivered my 1st there and am 37 weeks pregnant and will be delivering my 2nd there as well. With my 1st daughter I wanted to do an unmedicated birth without interventions (unless medically necessary of course) and they were very respectful and supportive of my decision and never tried pushing anything on me. The University of Utah Hospital is also the only Baby Friendly Designated Hospital in the state of Utah! While I’ve never delivered at Intermountain, I use to have my primary doctor, neurologist, and therapist through them and I do feel like the U network in general has a greater standard of care.

I haven’t personally delivered at either hospital, but my husband is a third year med student who goes between IHC and U of U for rotations, and he prefers U of U over IHC by far.

The U is amazing! I’d pick that again hands down.

One plus about the U is if the baby needs to go to Primary’s it’s just a walk away and parents can easily visit between the primary nicu and the U. If you deliver at IMC and the baby needs to go to primary’s it’s farther away and not easy for visiting when you’re freshly post partum. Also I’ve heard the U has nitrous oxide for pain management!
