brain on overdrive

All i’m seeing everywhere right now is SIDS. I open tiktok and it’s a video, or every comment on someone’s video. Or on instagram. Or Facebook. I’m 6 weeks PP and i genuinely cannot tell if my anxiety is just getting worse, or whether it’s social media fuelling it. I now overthink everything. I’m back to constantly checking if she’s breathing when asleep. I won’t leave her side. I hate others holding her for a long period of time. When she sleeps longer than usual, i panic. When she won’t go down for a nap; i panic. Even someone saying the word SIDS or reading the word sets off my brain. How do i make it stop? i know she’s okay. but it’s like my brain won’t accept it. i just keep getting this feeling of dread

I’m sending you a huge hug it’s tough ❤️

You can block certain phrases on tiktok from coming up in your settings. I also say “I’m not interested in this” whenever there is a video like that which sets off my SIDS anxiety.

Don’t worry - I’m in the same position. My boy was breathing so heavily last night after his 4am feed that I was just watching him for ages because I was so panicked. I don’t know whether his breathing is normal or I am right to be concerned! But SIDS is such a scary concept I get why us mamas are so worried! X

You can also get monitors. I have an owlet that measures her heart rate and breathing throughout the night. That helps me rest easier. There are cheaper ones you can get that clip to nappy. Worth it for peace of mind?

@Christina I wanted to get one of these but I’m cautious if false alarms (after reading the reviews) do you have anything like this?

@Amy the first few days we did but I think we were just new to it and not doing it right. We have had no issues since with it and had the odd alarm which was a drop in breathing (she had her face buried in my boob lol but was fine and breathing). It makes me feel so much better knowing she has it on. I can’t sleep on the nights we haven’t when we forgot to charge it etc.

@Christina that’s useful thank you.do you keep it on all day then or just at night? And do you find the saturation levels drop when your little one is moving around? My little boy was in neonatal when he was born so hooked up to the machines and when he would wriggle the sats would change and the nurses would just give me the OK and said it happens when they move but obviously I wouldn’t have that reassurance from them if it was to do it with the sock! Sorry for all the questions! Xx

That’s ok no problem at all. No we don’t have any changes when she moves around - I assume the hospital is much more sensitive, this only alarms if it dips under 80% or heart rate under 60. Which is actually very low on both BUT it’s a chance to intervene you don’t normally get. She wears it at night and if we ever co sleep. We have had 3 red alerts since she came home (born 31st Jan) and she’s worn it every night bar a couple. Once I was nursing her so knew why it alerted as I think she forgot to breathe as she was eating lol but was completely fine and the other two times were very early when I think it was placement issues. Since 25th Feb (touch wood) we haven’t had any alerts false or otherwise. It’s not failsafe but it is a great help for anxiety. Hope your neonate is thriving! 🩷💙
