Polyhydramnios/Too much Amniotic Fluid?

Hi everyone, Has anyone heard of Polyhydramnios before? I had a growth scan today and although baby is absolutely fine and measuring as she should be, they've found what they class as a 'severe' amount of amniotic fluid surrounding baby. Has anyone else experienced this? I've got to do the glucose test again to rule out gestational diabetes, have blood tests, a more in depth scan and wait to hear from a fetal doctor. I'm trying not to stress or panic but I'm worried I've done something wrong or it's my fault somehow 😔 they've also said they may need to induce me at 37 weeks. A lot of information to take in today!

Yes i had severe polyhydraminos, the scan from fetal medicine will be the most helpful in finding out the cause, they tried to put mine down to GD but it was very well managed with diet. Do you feel your little one moving about?

Ah okay, yeah it does seem that they always try to blame GD. Yes I feel her wriggling all the time which helps keep me sane haha. My in depth scan isn't for another 3 weeks and I'll be 37 weeks by then. So have you also got an in depth scan to find out more? Hope everything is okay for you xx

I was diagnosed with severe Poly at a 28 week growth scan, baby was also measuring on 93rd centile. I’d already passed my GTT but they asked me to do a week of diabetes blood monitoring (no issues). I was referred to fetal medicine who did a closer look at baby to check they were swallowing and stomach looked normal. At my 32 week scan fluids were back to normal range and baby was measuring at 70th centile so things might correct themselves. In the meantime I found a group on Facebook which was helpful to read others stories as google is a bit scary- just search Polyhydraminos Support. Happy to message if you’d like to chat 🙂

@Poppy movement is reassuring and cancels out alot of the scary causes! So try not to over worry, although that is impossible i know. Even managed GD could be the cause and they do have medications to try if it is. Usually polyhydraminos comes along with other symptoms such as very low fetal movement, or growth abnormalities, or fetal heart problems when the cause is something more sinister. Im assuming you dont have any of these? I think fetal medicine would have booked you sooner if that was the case. These issues where with my first baby, I had almost non existent fetal movement, and baby had a talipe that was picked up on my 20 week scan. I had regular growth scans because of bmi up until 34 weeks and no more problems where ever picked up, then they made the referral to fetal medicine for the severity of polyhydraminos and at 35 weeks fetal medicine gave me their predicted diagnosis x

Thanks for your help and advice ladies! You've reassured me 💕 xx
