Breast milk storage and reheat

Hey ladies, I understand that can store breast milk in the fridge for up to 24 hours. Is there a limit on how many times I can warm it up to offer to baby? I have been suggested to offer my new born bottle top up after every breast feed for 60ml. I am doing that but she finishes 30 or less mostly which means it goes back to fridge again. Thinking of offering her less but wondering how many times can I reheat milk and if it can spoil it sooner than 24 hours?

Breast milk can be stored in the fridge for 4/5 days not 24hrs I hope that helps x

@Aisha oh okay, thanks for clarifying,. but she mostly consumes in less than 24 hours overall. Only issue is reheating.. do you know much about that?

I'm sure breastmilk can be stored in the fridge for 6 days going by the 666 rule 6 hours room temp 6 days fridge 6months freezer It can only be reheated once though xx

It lasts for 5 days in the fridge, can only be reheated once and then should be discarded after 2 hours if baby has started drinking from it. You could just try heating up 30ml at a time? Might be a faff but at least you’re not wasting as much if she’s not having anymore than that.

I’m not sure about reheating girl I do apologise! Personally I haven’t reheated but it might be worth asking your midwife x

Breast milk can be left at room temp up to 4 hours, in the fridge up to 4 days and then 6 months in a freezer. I personally wouldn’t reheat, once you heat it once from taking it out of the fridge you have a risk of bacteria so I would heat it once and that’s it! If there is any milk left you could always use it for a milk bath 🛁

I store my breast milk for 4 days in the fridge plus i have some in the freezer as well. I usually reheat it in hot water (i have a bottle warmer) if it’s within a 2hr frame from when baby starting drinking it. If it passes the 2hr frame then i get a new sterilized bottle with new milk and heat it up.

Thank you so much ladies ❤️

I got by the rule of 6… 6 hours @ room temp 6 days in the fridge 6 months in the freezer. Breastmilk is liquid gold - Don’t dispose of it after 4 days! I always smell it anyway - it has a very distinct sour smell once it’s gone off!

@Elishah I agree on this, the smell of sour breastmilk is something else 😂
