Time outs for 11 month olds…too soon?

I’ve been letting my baby have little time outs since he’s officially moved into his own room now. He likes to play with everything he shouldn’t, so in order to keep him safe and myself from tiring out completely (as I’m 7 months pregnant) I let him have time outs for a few minutes, or more if he decides to nap. Is this too early to implement as far as learning?

It sounds like you are using the word time out for meaning removing him from an unsafe situation. In that case, it makes sense. Otherwise, for more traditional time outs (go sit on the stairs for x minutes and think about what you did), won't make any sense to him for a long time. You usually do their age for a time out as the max time, so a two year old would get a max of two minutes. For babies and toddlers, the easiest way to handle it is to just remove everything you can which is unsafe (cover plugs, the stove, close cabinets, etc.) although not always possible. Then when they do something wrong, we have found a strong no and moving them away or distractions work over and over and over again. It takes time but it does stick. I understand, I'm a mom of three boys four and under.
