Green and black teas actually are not bad ( I mean 34 mg of caffeine ) pales in comparison to the staggering 100 mg in one cup of coffee. I used to drink 3 cups of green tea a day ( one being matcha for the incredible health benefits)… the reason why I have slowed that during this first trimester is because if you dig deep into medical journals- the catechins in green tea… which are actually super good for you, can inhibit folate uptake… which is really important in the beginning stages… so when I do drink green tea I take it opposite my prenatals, and catechins can take around 8 hours to clear form the small intestine … I’ll do maybe 1 cup every other day now… for now though I’ve been enjoying a nice red rooibis or sea buckthorn and a nice ginger pregnancy tea in the morning… once second trimester hits you want to drink red raspberry leaf till the end- it helps strengthen uterus..
It’s a hibiscus based tea, which should be avoided in pregnancy (according to my midwife). I was bummed because it’s one of my favorites.
@Victoria ugh, oh no.
Most herbal teas don't contain caffeine so should be safe - you might want to limit green teas or black teas to only a couple cups per day though!
