how long can i stay in hospital after c section?

I was told i can stay for as long as i need and this was by a midwife at st marys who had a c section there .i was not aware of this. I have trouble in general with my health and not much support i would like to stay atleast 3 days to make sure i have no problems and baby is fine. i feel going the next day is a big NO for me after a massive surgery.

Not sure where you are but I think the normal is 24-48 hours. I am the opposite though. I begged them to send me home asap. I get so anxious in the hospital.

@Haley did you feel okay to go home?

My hospital was PISSED when I went home in 48 hours. They said I needed to stay at least 3 days, but my fiancé wasn’t allowed in because of covid restrictions so having a newborn solo at the hospital was not the experience, and I wanted to go home asap.

My insurance allowed me to stay 3 nights unless there was a complication but I opted to go home at the minimum 48 hours. I was beyond ready to go home! If they would have let me I would have gone home at the 24 hour mark.

I was told I could leave at the 24hr mark which I basically did ( just had to wait on medication) They did offer on the ward round for me to stay to the next morning so would of been around 40 hours but I refused x

My hospital said 48 hours for C-section but I stayed there a week. Before and after having my baby. It depends on your healing and baby’s health.

I asked to stay a second night after advice from the midwife before my section. The following morning the doctor checked with me about being ready to leave. Do what you think is right. It isn't always possible to get your own room on the ward unfortunately you may find that you're on a shared unit and this may make you think again and go home to allow yourself to rest in peace. Good luck ❤️

Had him on the Friday and I went home on the Sunday evening 😊 they did not seem in a rush to discharge me and if anything I was pushing for it

I guess depends on how busy they are, and if they need the bed.

Where are you based? I was discharged out of hospital after 1 day but we have a local birth centre that offers a post natal care ward and you can transfer yourself to it and stay for as long as you need where I live, so I did that for an extra 4 nights after my section. Not sure if you have anything like that near you?

My Private OBGYN said 3 nights and 4 days at least. However that’s shorter if I went to the public hospital. I’m sure it also depends on any complications ect

they OKd me to go after 2 days but i didn’t feel ready so i stayed an extra day!

Yeah I was so ready to go home. I had preeclampsia but even then they “only” kept me 76 hours because I was so desperate to get home. Anxiety problems. Had an emergency c under general but overall had minimal pain. So physically I was good to go

I stayed 4 days with my c-section

In my trust it’s 24 hours unless there are any issues, but every trust is different as some let partners stay over and mine does not

I don’t know where you based but in uk where I’m I stayed 3days they told me the next day that I can go home if I feel ready but I told them no. They can’t send you home forcefully you can refuse to leave and stay as long as you need. My cousin stayed ten days in hospital after her section

@Sara im in london. what was your reason for not leaving x

I told them I’m not ready yet as I barely could make it to the toilet I was in lot pain when walking and I needed help and at home I have a toddler and I haven’t got anyone to help me my husband looks after my toddler so if I came home early I would be on my own.At least in hospital I had nurses who I could call to help me out anytime and it was reassuring and helped my recovery a lot.

I got 2 nights/3 days. They asked if I wanted an extra night to rest and I snapped it up. Got extra help learning to feed too and it was lovely x

@Sarah thank you sarah x
