Oh gosh, this is so normal!! I leaked colostrum with my first and my milk came in 2-3 days after birth. With my second I never saw a drop of colostrum, but my milk still came in 2-3 days after birth. When you give birth your body produces a bunch of chemicals/hormones that tell itself to make what your baby will need and then your babyâs frequency and efficiency of nursing will also tell your body what it needs to produce. Donât stress! You have what youâll need!!
Also, I just saw you want to pump. I pumped with my first when she was in the NICU. So I just wanted to say the frequency and duration of pumping will determine your milk supply. You should start pumping immediately after birth for at least 15 minutes on each side (even better if you can pump both sides at once). Do this even if itâs a âdry pumpâ because youâre telling your body what you need. Itâll produce if you keep at it!
Had the same exact issue before delivery milk came in fast by 3rd day
Donât give up !! It will come
I didn't have anything until after I gave birth. So don't worry, it will come. Once you give birth I recommend having your baby latch and try feeding as much as possible. Then pump if needed. Everyone is different. And my full milk didn't come in till a week after. Drank mother's milk tea' to help. Don't get discouraged. Milk will come.
Everyone is so different. I tried to get colostrum and couldnât. I had a planned c section a day before my due date and as soon as my baby was born she was placed on to skin to skin. And shortly after when doing the c hand expressing position I could see the golden droplets. My milk supply came in full at 3 days after baby on me basically every hour the first two days. X
Lots of people arenât able to express colostrum before birth. The rush of hormones that occurs with the release of the placenta is what initiates the main supply, please donât worry!!
Placenta leaving the body activates the milk flow, even though yes your breast tissues are making milk throughout pregnancy. I didnât even know about colostrum collection 4yrs ago and he was BF until 3yrs.

Iâm 38+5 and Iâm the same! donât worry itâll come!
@Denver i hope so !!
I had no leaking and didn't get any colostrum before birth. I also barely got any colostrum when I tried hand expressing in the hospital the first night but I now EBF.
The baby needs the nutrient dense and thick colostrum not milk the first day. Your placenta is actively producing hormones to stop your milk coming in and once itâs gone after you give birth your body will be able to produce milk but it takes some time, usually 3-5 days post partum for a first time mom.
You canât judge milk supply yet. You have colostrum now but not everyone can express much. All baby needs is a few drops at birth anyway. Once the placenta detaches is when your body is triggered into maturing your milk, and latching your baby gives the supply and demand process. Please do yourself a favour and take a breastfeeding course. Even one hour online. Believing you have no milk supply before youâve even given birth shows a lack of education on the topic which is perfectly fine and normal for a lot of women but you need to learn whatâs normal. If you experience things you donât know are normal it will be easier for you to quit breastfeeding or take poor advice that will negatively affect your journey. Do this for yourself and your baby! You got this! đ€ Also latching is your best friend. Pumping is extremely difficult and time consuming and 3x the amount of tasks for you
Every body is different, I had a bunch of colostrum and my milk came in 3 days so donât worries about it . Try to be calm and trust yourself and you are 38 weeks just wait until baby is with you everything is different when baby is born and your body too . Trust yourself â€ïž

Your milk doesnât come in until 3-5 days after birth. In the meantime colostrum is all your baby will need and more will be produced once theyâre born x
