Old school Milton sterilising

Hey! Using the old fashion bowl and sterilising tablet method. I know about all the newer mod cons but we’re not looking to change this. Anyway after 15 minutes (minimum) in the Milton water, we’ve been hanging our bottles to dry on a baby bottle drying rack from Amazon. Something a local friend recommended - her boy is a few months older than mine. With the nice weather they’ve tried perfectly. If there’s ever a few drops inside we give them a shake over the sink. Health visitor came the other day. She’d never seen one of the racks and said they weren’t recommended but couldn’t quite tell me why. More so because SHE’D not seen one. Same goes for she’d never heard of the formulas divider things - for if baby was at my mums etc for her to make up feeds. Even I’d heard and seen the dividers pre child. Anyway she recommended to keep all bottles in the Milton all of the time and then using a piece of kitchen roll (but this isn’t sterilised?) to clear any excess water when the bottle is needed. Or to pour over boiling water which is easier said than done without touching the tests etc. I guess my question is, does anyone have any post Milton dip/soak bottle drying tips please ?? TIA XX

We're using a bottle drier, too and I'm sticking with it. I swear these health visitors make it up as they go along.

I use the Milton cold water steriliser but only after first using the tommee tippee microwave steriliser and that taking too much effort microwaving for 8 minutes. I sterilise in the water and store them in the tommee tippee one as storage and resterilise after 24 hours. Little ones 6 weeks and haven’t had any issues with him.

I’m doing exactly the same as you and I don’t intend on changing 🤣 they really do make it up, my health visitor had no issues with it at all

@Jayde is yours just on the kitchen side too? I mean my kitchen is immaculate and the drainer isn’t touching anything! What do you do if bottles are not completely dry before use?

@Kirsty ahhh so you use the microwave steriliser for storage only?

@Sinead good to know! Is your drainer also just on the kitchen side but obviously in a clean space? And what about if bottles not completely dry before use? X

@incognito I do yes. It’s so much easier and gives me room in the milton steriliser to put other bits in

I do yes, and if the bottles aren't fully dried I still use it wet, it's perfectly safe to do so, you don't have to dry the milton water off the bottle to be able to use.

It’s actually on my kitchen windowsill purely because it won’t fit on my drainer haha but yeah perfectly clean! I just give them a shake over the sink to get off any drops left over. I honestly wouldn’t think twice about how you’re doing it, it’s perfectly fine ☺️ x

I use the cold water option when I'm away and don't have a microwave to sterilise them. You can use them wet and your not actually meant to dry of excess x

I'm doing old school sterilising like you too. I just give it a shake if it's tiny bit wet still.no issues this far and I am not worried. I don't think we can get any cleaner.

I was in hospital for a week after with little one and they only had the Milton cold ones with tablets. They advised to leave in there and take out when needed, not to dry them or use any paper towel or anything just make up the bottle
