Stairs after C Section

I have an elective C section scheduled for May 29th. Our master is on the 3rd floor. 3 flights of stairs. Closest bedroom is two flights. At what point do you think I’ll be able to sleep up there? Also carrying baby up and down stairs too? I’m going to set up a sleeping arrangement on the first floor for when I get home but I’m curious how long I’ll have to do that?

I have an elective scheduled for the 29th as well! We live in a split level so I have to do the stairs either way. With my last c section I do t really Renee stairs being a huge issue for me o think it just depends on how you are feeling!

I personally was walking upstairs to bed the same day I was home so 24 hours after c section. Could be uncomfortable at times but you’ve just got to take it slow. It wasn’t long before I was carrying my baby up and down as my partner was straight back to work so I had no choice

@Jess oh wow! This is encouraging! I really want to sleep in my bed when I get home. My body will already be sore and sleeping on the couch isn’t going to help!

I lived on the 3rd floor of my apartment complex.. I get this, I was trying my best to not go downstairs when it was unnecessary. It wasn’t all bad to walk up and down, I just had to take it slow. I was sleeping on an air mattress due to my bed being too high and I would have to climb it.

@Caroline yeah you’d definitely be better in your own bed. You could try go up the stairs and if it’s too much then have a back up option just in case but I’m sure you’d be fine just taking it slowly

I was worried about this too. I unfortunately had a bad tear of my c section scar when baby made his way out so I found stairs quite painful. But I had no choice either so for the first week or two I had family carry baby up and down the stairs and I tried not to go up and down too much. I stayed on the top floor in the bedroom with tv and mini fridge for a few days until I was getting squirrly then was doing stairs at least 2-4 times a day. Wish I knew more about healing and pelvic floor then, I would have improved my posture and it probably would have been good exercise for me if I wasn’t so scared and walking hunched over like a granny just out of anxiety more than anything! So I recommend calling a pelvic floor therapist before you deliver to get any tips if you can. Good luck ❤️

I did the stairs when I was home 24 hours after my elective! Only one flight but I don’t remember it being bad, just go slow x

I had zero issues with stairs. We lived in a multi story flat and now a 3 floor house and I’ll be having another elective. Just go slowly. Some people say going up sideways helps, but honestly I climbed stairs without any issues from the day I was discharged x

@Sarah this is such great news! All the horror stories had me believing I was barely going to be able to walk up the 5 to the front porch! 🫣 I’m so glad I asked!

@Caroline electives and emergencies are very different recoveries, don’t let the horror stories win. There’s thousands of lovely elective stories on peanut in case you need reassurance xx

@Sarah I’ve heard this quite a lot, my first was an emergency but my next will be an elective so I’m very intrigued to see the difference between the two

Stairs were no issue for me either time

Set up a comfy sleeping arrangement in case you’re not feeling up for stairs and just see how you go! It’s a lot more comfortable to sleep upright after a c section which will be easier on a couch anyway. It’ll probably be a few days/ a week max

The stairs were never an issue for me post section.

I had an elective and have 3 flights of stairs. I just took it slow and only went up and down a few times a day. By 2 1/2 weeks I felt great and was outside walking.

I used the stairs when home after elective section and was fine just took it slow xx

First night home (second night after having emergency C-section) I walked up the stairs. I just walked at my nice slower pace and made sure I only needed to use the stairs twice a day really.

I used stairs no problem

I have a C-section booked on the 29th too! I was going to sleep downstairs for the first night I was home, but hoping I'll be pretty mobile and feeling ok once I leave the hospital.

just take ur time going up them x
