Contraction but not dilated 😭

Anyone else had this? And how long before you started dilating? I started getting mild contractions yesterday morning about 22 hours ago I think and they went all day and got more regular and intense and by late last night h were getting pretty painful and had the bloody show but got checked and they said the baby’s heads really low but my cervix is too far back to even check so not dilating at all yet 😭 so was given some dihydrocodine to take home for the pain and told to try sleep if I can and see how I am tomorrow and basically come back if my waters break or the contractions become really close consistently and really intense. The contractions have been feeling intense all night tbh but I’m guessing they have to get more intense and idk how close they are because o was trying to sleep and I was told the pain killers would slow them down as well so I’m not sure when to go back but has anyone had this where you’re getting painful contractions for a while but not dilating? How long was it before you started dilating?

I am in an exactly same situation right now. Got checked and they said my cervix is really posterior so not dilated. Baby is nicely engage but not coming soon. Lost mucus plug. Hving contractions every 15 minutes. But still nothing serious they said.

With my first I had this for 4 days before my waters broke and I got transferred to delivery ward (I went in for an induction as baby was overdue), it got to the point where they could see my contractions on the machine were strong, close together but I just wouldn’t dilate (I made it to 3cm on day one and then never got any further) so they ended up taking me for an emergency c-section as they couldn’t put me on the hormone drip as baby’s heart rate had dropped so low. Not trying to disheartened you but just be prepared for a long wait. BUT also keep thinking positive but you are on the way to welcoming your baby so it’s now just a count down. Each contraction is one closer to seeing them 😍

Aww yeah exact same as me! Mine are every ten minutes at the moment but they were every 3-5 last night but slowed down a lot, not sure if that’s because of the codine because she did say they’d likely slow them down so I could rest a bit or if it’s just a coincidence because they were sort of going up and down in frequency a wee bit still. It’s so frustrating though they say once they’re under 5 minutes apart it’s getting closer and mine had been for a couple hours which felt like ages when I was having contractions every few minutes 😭 but then they suddenly jumped back up so don’t know what to think anymore 😭

I had my baby at 39 weeks I went from none to 7 in 9hours

@Brittany oh god I hope it’s not going to be as long for me 😭 the midwife did warn me last night that from this stage for some people it can go on for days which made me feel like crying 😭 but she only gave me 24 hours worth of pain killers and said she’d hopefully see me back there today with more regular contractions and hopefully started dilating so I’m really hoping for that 🤞🤞my mum and Nan both had their first babies within 24 hours of early contractions so I’ve already gone longer than either of them did from the very start 😭 but I’m still hoping that the fact they both had quick ish early labour means mine won’t be too much longer till things get going 😬🤞 my fear is needing the hormone drip or worse a c section but obviously biggest fear is a complication with the baby so your experience sounds so scary 😓

Yeah, I had this for 4 days and it was only when I had the epidural I went from 2cm to 9cm in about 6 hours overnight x

I was in labour for 17 hours was very long but all worth it xx

Mine previously was 2 days and I never dilated past 4cm and needed my waters broken manually and the hormone drip which resulted in a spinal and forceps delivery. The hormone drip sucks but I've had it twice now and my second time I did it with no pain relief, like it's bad yes I won't lie but it is manageable to an extent and there is pain relief options, please don't let it scare you, I just had one sentence running through my head the entire time which was I'm going to meet my baby soon and it's honestly what got me through....that and putting my partner in a headlock 🤣 I hope you dilate soon and get the birth you want and baby gets here soon and safely, oh and enjoy the newborn snuggles 🥰 they are the best feeling in world 💕💕

I had similar with my first. Took 5 days to get to 3cm, then my waters broke and it suddenly went to 8cm within the hour and she was born 4 hours later. It's frustrating & exhausting but the end is in sight 😬 good luck!! Xx

With my first I had painful contractions for 4 days, couldn’t sleep etc. went in for monitoring on the 4th day and they said my contractions were strong but I was only 2cm dilated. I was so frustrated & was getting tired. They sent me home after a sweep and then they got more intense so I went back in - still only 3cm!! I basically refused to leave because I was worried about being too exhausted to birth baby & then they ended up breaking my waters and then I ended up on the drip. It was about 16 hours from breaking my waters to giving birth. Hopefully things progress much sooner for you. I would say try to sleep if you can and do lots of relaxing things that make you feel happy to get that oxytocin flowing xxx
