Baby not engaged

Hi, went for my 38 week appointment today and on my notes it said baby was ‘ceph long free’ when I googled it said this meant he’s not engaged at all. At my 36 week appointment he was 3/5 engaged! Thought I wasn’t feeling as much pressure at the moment. This is second baby… is it normal for this to happen?

Second babies move around a lot more as there is more space. So they will pop in and out of our pelvis.

Yep, baby number 2+ can bob in and out. You don’t need to be engaged to go into labour though :)

Ahh thank you! Not really in any rush for baby to come but good to know it’s normal 😊

They move in an out annoyingly - had a hospital appointment this morning he was engaged … midwife appointment in the afternoon where he wasn’t engaged at all 🤦🏻‍♀️

3rd baby. Have previously been engaged and Monday was ‘free’ back today and engaged again 🙈😂 did mean I got a sweep today but nothing seems to be happening yet.

My midwife said second baby can go in n out lol 😂 I never got to find how engaged my son was.. came out just fine

Very common for second babies to not engage & also drop in & out of the pelvis! At my last midwife check baby was only 3/5 engaged & then I went into labour 2 days later 🤷🏻‍♀️ apparently they often don’t engage or fully drop until you’re in labour - as your uterus has already been stretched before & baby has more room. ☺️

I questioned the same with my midwife, she said second just goes in and out, won’t necessarily be in until you’re actually in active labour!
