Newborn restless when settled

Hi my LO is just over a week old, and everyday it's great to see him more and more explorative. However I've noticed that when hes settled he becomes really restless flinching his arms, gripping his clothing and murmuring etc - to me it looks like it's perhaps a sign he's uncomfortable with something but it's so hard to tell when there's so many possibilities (heat, itchy clothing, itchy belly button where cord has fallen off, wind etc) so I'm just wondering primarily if this seems normal behaviour for a newborn? He seems to get really frustrated with himself, and it breaks my heart 🙈

My baby is the same (5 days old) I’ve found picking her up and sitting her upright helps (so possibly wind/ digestion related) doesn’t always settle her completely though.

@Laura yes same with ours and he is 9 days old .. sounds like it could be digestive related! X

Hey! your little one could be in active sleep. They do this every 40 minutes or so when they are in the light stage of a sleep cycle. My little girl is 9 days old and once she’s settled in her cot, will often scrunch her face, fling her legs up etc. Of course it be digestive related etc- you know your baby best! x
