Baby smiles and laughs with Dad but not me

Hi, Just curious, I have a three month old, he laughs and giggles and constantly smiles at his dad all the time. My husband would say one word and he would just smile and look at him with so much admiration. With me he is always serious and I have to really work hard to get him to smile or laugh with me? Did anyone else experience this? It makes me feel like me and my baby aren’t bonded like he is with his dad

This is completely normal! I read somewhere (if I can find it again I’ll link it) that babies have different physiological and psychological responses to their parents when they are little. They primarily look for comfort, nurture and nourishment from their mums and so they get their happy hormone hits from our feeding, cuddles and love. But with dads, as they can’t provide that in the same way, babies will get their dopamine release from dads making silly faces and funny noises and play. Babies also don’t realise that they are a separate person from mum until much later on and so he sees you as an extension of himself, whereas dad is someone different and exciting. Don’t take it personally, you’re everything your baby needs, wants and more!
