Iâve had to loose a huge amount of weight to be eligible for IVF and currently taking stims. I personally donât think itâs helpful to completely remove all the âunhealthy' snacks or treats. I think moderation is better, a little bit of chocolate or whatever is good for your soul and therefore good for stress levels and lower stress levels are best! I find if I restrict it creates bingeing habits which are worse. Donât feel guilty for nourishing your body!
The only think I say No, was alcohol, and coffee, and I donât smoke so no need it, but the rest everything with moderation I ate desserts, sugar, carbs with super foods combined !!
The books âreal food for pregnancyâ and âit starts with the eggâ go into detail and cite studies on the ideal diet for fertility and pregnancy
Iâve been low carb, Mediterranean style for a while now and I feel really good but then I was advised this would work best for my particular metabolism/health needs etc. I absolutely have loads of treats though, IVF is too hard to survive without treats! And Iâve had as much coffee as I want because I genuinely donât know how Iâd make it into work without it!
I wasnât on any strict diet either however I was very mindful with what I put in my body and made sure I was eating less sweets. Thatâs my weakness
I tried to eat relatively healthy but didnât go overboard. Truthfully if diet had a significant impact more doctors would tell you to follow it. My RE just said itâs extremely unlikely to make to break a cycle.
@Bethany same!! I previously drank a lot of coffee so I cut it down to 200mg max. I didn't change anything else. You're right that ivf is hard enough!
Absolutely nothing. I had one cup of instant coffee in a morning, had takeaways, I drank alcohol (only 2 gins) the day before my period on the transfer that worked. I had a cold milkshake straight after the transfer. Itâs all old wives tales and circumstantial evidence aka a few people ate that and it worked so now itâs âlinkedâ in a study. So unless your clinic specifically recommend it, then as long as youâre eating a good balanced diet most of the time youâll be fine. The embryo is either going to stick or it isnât. Eating a pineapple core ainât going to change that. As much as people would have you believe. IVF is hard, donât stress yourself eat the cake and relax. Best of luck.
Thanks everyone for your replies. I see so many posts about diet and I am so desperate to support my body but it ends up being counterproductive as I stress about it all the time. As you've said, IVF is hard enough and I need to remember that a slice of cake or a pizza here or there is not really going to influence my chances!
@Jodi diet is pretty important but so is having cheat meals. Just be kind to yourself too
Eat what makes you happy because IVF is hard enough.
