Fit to fly letter

I’m going on a short break to Spain when I’ll be 27 weeks pregnant. Im flying with EasyJet and technically don’t need a fit to fly certificate. I mentioned it to my Midwife and she said sometimes it’s worth getting one, incase the airline question how far gone you are. I thought I’d get one from my GP as back up, and my midwife said they are usually about £10/£20. Anyway….this was the response from my GP! £250! 😮😳

£250 is extreme, I was told £25? Maybe it’s a typo x

If you don’t need one I wouldn’t bother getting one. Take a scan report or a screen shot of your online notes with you as evidence of due date

@Georgia I just replied and asked them to confirm and it’s £25! Obviously a typo, thankfully!

@Charlotte I'm on my way back from holiday now, at 27 weeks. I just took my MATB1 to show how far along I was if anyone asked, but no one did!

Would your midwife not do one? Mine done one for me as a back up. I was 16 weeks and didn't need it. I wasn't charged

@Charley this is great to know, thank you

@Claire I asked the midwife and she said I had to get it from my GP 🤷🏻‍♀️

@Charlotte I think it depends on the area. I also asked my midwife and she said Gp. I paid 30 pounds.

Just take your notes with your gestation dates on. £250 is ridiculous

If you really want it, you can also get it privately for £50/£80, there are many websites

😵😵😵 my midwife gave it to me for free

Will you be 28 weeks when you fly back? If so you’ll need one for the way back x that seems extortionate, I’d double check with the GP!

@Cass I will be 28 weeks when we fly back. On EasyJet’s website it says you can fly upto 35 weeks. Might get the letter just to be on the safe side 🙂

@Charlotte if you're flying easyJet you won't need one. They very specifically say you don't need a medical certificate on their website (at any stage of pregnancy, only that you can fly until 35 weeks)

@Charlotte you can fly up to 35 weeks but usually need a fit to fly after 28 weeks, when I flew with them they told me I was just on the cut off as I was flying back at 27 weeks- I could be wrong but that’s what they said to me and it would be a nightmare if you got rejected on the way back! Xx

Definitely take one, I was asked for one by EasyJet at 21 weeks pregnancy! Had to show them my scan with my due date on it to prove I was only 21 weeks! 🙈

@Lauren when did you fly? Easyjets own policy is not to require a medical certificate (current policy) so they cannot require you to have one or refuse travel without one.

Sorry, only just saw this. This happened in June on the way back from Barcelona.
