contraception after birth

I’m starting to think about what to go on after birth, i was on the progesterone only pill at 18 and i absolutely hated it. Non stop bleeding for months but i can’t do the eostrogen ones because of migraines. I’m thinking the coil, does anyone have any opinions on it?

I was the same with migraines and stuff before I got pregnant I was on cerazette pill but after I decided to go onto the Injection which is called sayana press (you inject yourself) and it’s been a lot better for me my periods have completely stopped and no migraines at all x

@Louise injections the other one i’m interested in, only thing that puts me off is that it can take up to a year to conceive once stopped but i guess if you prepare correctly that’s not an issue. Thank you!

As part of my 6 week post partum appointment they discussed it with me and then booked me in to have it fitted (the implant 2 days later). Your doctor should talk through all the options with you there.

@Jade okay thank you, i’m glad they discuss with you otherwise i’d be sitting stuck wondering what to do x

@Loron i’ve heard some stories about them being lost or babies being born anyway😳

@Loron omg, that is a bit scary😂maybe i’ll explore some other options

The coil for me was awful, constant pain, loads of weight gain and massive mood swings. I had it taken out after 6 months, turned out that it was twisted inside which is likely what caused the pain! Every contraception is different for each person. Personally I haven’t got on with the hormones in the pill or with the coil so not sure I will try much else now! x

Hey! I currently have the depo injection every 3 months I've had no issues with it (only thr nuisance of going to get it every 3 months) xx

I too suffer with migraines and have to be careful which contraception I choose moving forwards. My doctor went through the options for me based on the likely risk of migraines and unfortunately for me the pill is the safest option for me. I had the coil fitted years ago and had nothing but issues with it, had to have the cords cut 2 times and then eventually removed as it was rubbing the inside/ kept moving. The implant has a higher risk of migraines than the pill but is still a good option & something I'm considering personally. I had it fitted years ago also, only issue I had was weight gain and really heavy periods. But after PP bleeding I can handle anything! Definitely worth talking through your options and ask them to do the risk assessment against the risk of migraines with you. X

I had the copper coil before getting pregnant and loved it.Will be getting one shortly. I know some people out there had bad experiences with coils and at first you might be getting cramps and heavier periods but this usually settles down after a couple of weeks. Also was super quick to remove :)

Injection and implant were awful for me. Constant bleeding

Im getting the copper coil tomorrow, I think it’s the best option :)

@Naomi how did it give you mood swings? It’s non hormonal as an option? Did your doctor explain that to you

@Chloe yes I discussed the options but the non-hormonal copper coil wasn’t an option because of how painful my periods already were! I went on the hormonal one to try and help control them but unfortunately the hormones play havoc with me and cause my anxiety to sky rocket and end up with really low mood. The same with the pill so not sure I really want to try much else now! 😣 x
